Are you an experienced mechanical fitter or engineer looking for a role that's a little different?
Nene Valley Railway is looking for a General Engineering Fitter to join our Engineering Department. This is a rare opportunity to work on a wide variety of heritage railway vehicles, from steam and diesel locomotives to historic carriages and rolling stock, helping to keep one of the UK's leading heritage railways operating safely and reliably.
No two days are the same. Depending on operational requirements, you'll work across the Engineering Department, undertaking everything from routine servicing and fault finding to major overhaul and restoration projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Maintaining, repairing and overhauling heritage locomotives, carriages and rolling stock.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out mechanical repairs.
- Supporting restoration projects and engineering improvements.
- Completing inspections and ensuring vehicles are safe and ready for service.
- Working as part of a skilled and supportive engineering team.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and housekeeping.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical engineering, takes pride in producing quality work and is keen to develop their skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Mechanical fitting or engineering experience.
- Good practical skills using hand and power tools.
- The ability to read engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
It Would Be Great If You Also Have Experience In
- Welding and fabrication.
- Steam and/or Diesel engines or heavy mechanical equipment.
- Vehicle electrical systems.
- Heritage railways or historic vehicle restoration.
