Role Title: Lead Neurodiversity Practitioner
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Location: Sension House, Denton Drive, Northwich, CW9 7LU, plus various community settings across the service area, including schools, family hubs, community venues, and online delivery.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Full Time)
Salary: £24,120.13 - £26,630.58 per annum
Contract: Permanent, employed

Role Overview
The Lead Neurodiversity Practitioner will play a key role in delivering high-quality support to neurodivergent children, young people, adults, and their families. The postholder will provide direct support across APS services while also supporting the coordination and day-to-day development of a small team of practitioners, volunteers, and sessional staff.
The role will focus on early help, strengths-based support, and practical interventions that improve wellbeing, inclusion, confidence, and access to opportunities. A significant aspect of the role will involve working in partnership with schools and families to identify needs early and provide tailored support through APS's neurodiversity profiling and support approach.
The postholder will also contribute to the development of resources, workshops, and training programmes for parents, carers, young people, schools, and professionals, helping to ensure APS services remain accessible, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and group support to neurodivergent children, young people, adults, and families.
- Deliver support that is person-centred, strengths-based, and tailored to individual needs.
- Assist individuals and families to identify goals and develop practical strategies to overcome barriers.
- Deliver targeted support around wellbeing, confidence, independence, social connections, and education.
- Provide information, advice, signposting, and practical guidance.
- Undertake neurodiversity profiling and strengths-based assessments with children, young people and adults.
- Identify individual strengths, challenges, support needs, and desired outcomes.
- Develop individual support plans and recommendations.
- Work with families and schools to implement strategies and reasonable adjustments.
- Promote an early-help approach that enables timely intervention and prevents difficulties from escalating.
- Develop positive working relationships with schools and education professionals.
- Deliver support sessions and interventions within educational settings.
- Support children and young people experiencing attendance, engagement, wellbeing, or inclusion challenges.
- Provide practical guidance and advice to school staff.
- Contribute to APS initiatives aimed at improving inclusion and understanding of neurodiversity within schools.
Qualifications
Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant subject, such as:
- Health and Social Care
- Education
- Youth Work
- Family Support
- Community Practice
- Counselling Skills
- Psychology
OR
- Significant relevant experience supporting neurodivergent individuals and families.
Experience
- Experience supporting neurodivergent children, young people, adults, or families.
- Experience delivering one-to-one support.
- Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or support programmes.
- Experience working with schools or educational settings.
- Experience assessing needs and developing individual support plans.
- Experience building positive relationships with families and partner organisations.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and monitoring outcomes.
Knowledge and Skills
- Good understanding of autism, ADHD, and wider neurodiversity.
- Understanding of neuro-affirming practice.
- Knowledge of challenges faced by neurodivergent children, young people, adults, and families.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with a wide range of people.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations and workshops.
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft 365.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
