The Targeted Team provides specialist mental health assessment, intervention and care coordination for children and young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties which cannot be effectively managed within universal or lower-intensity services. The Team Leader is responsible for the operational management, leadership and clinical oversight of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care in line with Trust objectives, national guidance and local service specifications. The post holder will lead service development, workforce planning, performance management and governance activities, whilst promoting positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. They will work collaboratively with internal and external partners across health, social care, education and voluntary sector services to ensure integrated care pathways and timely access to appropriate support
Main Responsibilities
Provide operational, clinical and professional leadership to the CAMHS Targeted Team, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, recovery-focused and evidence-based care for children, young people and families. Maintain oversight of assessments, care planning, risk management, safeguarding and clinical decision-making, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, professional standards.
Lead, supervise and support a multidisciplinary workforce through recruitment, induction, appraisal, performance management, workforce planning and staff development. Promote staff wellbeing, monitor training compliance and maintain safe staffing levels.
Manage service performance through effective monitoring of activity, waiting times, outcomes, quality standards and governance requirements. Lead audits, investigations, service reviews and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring lessons learned are embedded into practice.
Develop effective partnerships with health, social care, education and voluntary sector colleagues to support integrated care pathways and positive outcomes. Contribute to service development, transformation programmes, business planning and implementation of best practice.
Ensure effective communication with service users, carers, staff and partner agencies. Manage resources responsibly, support value for money and maintain accurate records, data collection and reporting to support safe, high-quality service delivery.

Band 7 Team Leader – CAMHS Targeted Team
The post holder will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership to the CAMHS Targeted Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective mental health services for children, young people and their families. The Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service, supporting staff to deliver evidence-based interventions, managing performance and resources, and contributing to the strategic development of the service.
Operational Management
Lead the day-to-day operation of the Targeted Team, ensuring the effective delivery of assessments, interventions, care coordination and risk management.
Ensure the service meets agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), access standards, waiting time targets and quality measures.
Monitor clinical activity, caseloads, capacity and demand, taking appropriate action to address pressures and risks.
Ensure effective deployment of staff and resources to meet service needs.
Coordinate team processes and pathways to ensure children and young people receive timely and appropriate care.
Leadership and Workforce Management
Provide visible and effective leadership to a multidisciplinary team.
Undertake recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, capability management and performance management processes in accordance with Trust policies.
Support staff wellbeing, staff engagement and retention initiatives.
Promote a positive team culture that values diversity, inclusion, compassion and continuous learning.
Ensure all staff maintain statutory, mandatory and professional training requirements.
Clinical Governance and Quality
Maintain oversight of clinical practice and provide support and consultation regarding complex and high-risk cases.
Ensure robust safeguarding arrangements are in place and that statutory responsibilities are met.
Lead on incident management, complaints, compliments and learning from patient safety events.
Monitor compliance with clinical governance requirements, including supervision, record keeping, risk assessments and care planning.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives and service evaluations.
Performance and Service Improvement
Analyse service performance data and implement improvement plans where required.
Develop and maintain performance dashboards and monitoring systems.
Identify opportunities for innovation and service development to improve outcomes and efficiency.
Contribute to business planning, workforce planning and service transformation programmes.
Lead and support implementation of local and national service developments.
Partnership Working
Develop strong working relationships with colleagues across CAMHS, social care, education, primary care, voluntary sector organisations and acute services.
Represent the service at internal and external meetings, forums and multi-agency networks.
Work collaboratively to ensure effective care pathways and seamless transitions between services.
Promote integrated working and shared responsibility for improving outcomes for children and young people.
Financial and Resource Management
Support the management of delegated budgets and resources.
Ensure resources are utilised effectively and efficiently.
Monitor establishment, vacancies and workforce expenditure.
Contribute to business cases and workforce planning discussions.
Risk and Safeguarding Responsibilities
Ensure appropriate management of clinical and operational risks.
Support staff in the assessment and management of risk, including safeguarding concerns.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation, Trust policies and national guidance.
Escalate risks and concerns appropriately through governance structures.
Communication Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with staff, children, young people, families and partner agencies.
Produce reports, performance updates and briefing papers as required.
Ensure information is shared appropriately and confidentiality is maintained.
Act as an advocate for children, young people and families accessing services.
General Responsibilities
Maintain professional registration and comply with relevant professional standards.
Contribute to the delivery of Trust objectives and organisational priorities.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
