Walker Brothers is a leading British manufacturer of bespoke retail display and interior equipment. From supermarket rollouts to flagship retail concepts, we design and build products that bring stores to life. Our factory combines sheet metal, wood, and plastics with cutting-edge machinery and craftsmanship – all under one roof.
We’re now looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role suits someone who loves designing products that actually get made — an ambitious, hands-on engineer who gets inspired by machines, materials, and the possibilities of modern manufacturing.
What you’ll do
- Design and develop bespoke retail display systems and components in SolidWorks.
- Produce 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and assembly documentation.
- Optimise designs for manufacturability, quality, cost, and repeatability.
- Prepare flat patterns and CNC-ready data (Jetcam or similar experience a plus).
- Work closely with the production team to refine designs and solve technical challenges.
- Manage the NPI (New Product Introduction) process
- Manage the factory of the future/continuous improvement process
- Support continuous improvement and innovation across processes and products.
- Potentially occasionally assist with visualisations or renders in SketchUp or Blender.
What we’re looking for
- Strong SolidWorks experience (3+ years ideally).
- Proven background in product or manufacturing design (sheet metal, joinery, or fabrication).
- Good understanding of how things are made – from laser cutting to welding and assembly.
- Practical, workshop-aware mindset – you like seeing your work come to life on the shop floor.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Positive, proactive attitude and a genuine interest in innovation.
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience with Jetcam, CNC programming, or nesting.
- Experience in retail display, furniture, or industrial product design.
- Familiarity with rendering tools (SketchUp, Blender).
What we offer
- Competitive salary, based on experience.
- A modern, well-equipped factory with advanced machinery and a collaborative team.
- The opportunity to shape the future of a respected British manufacturer.
- Genuine variety – no two projects are the same.
- Pension, life insurance, parking, socials, tea & lots of coffee!
If you’re an engineer who loves great design — and a designer who loves making things real — we’d love to hear from you.
