SEN Tutor / Mentor Needed – Boyton, Woodbridge (IP12)
Location: Boyton, IP12 area (home visits with a parent present, gradually building towards a community setting)
Hours: Up to 15 hours per week (phased build up from a low starting point)
Rate: £25 to £35 per hour DOE

About the Role
We're looking for a specialist, patient tutor to support a 14-year-old girl (Year 9 moving into Year 10, Key Stage 4) who is currently unable to attend school. She has a diagnosis of Autism alongside generalised anxiety, OCD and severe separation anxiety, and has been out of school since February. This role combines GCSE level tuition in English, Maths and core subjects with a therapeutic strand, focused on re engaging her, rebuilding stability, and supporting a gradual return to learning.
This is a relationship-led role. Success depends on the tutor's ability to build trust slowly and work entirely at the young person's pace.
What You'll Be Doing
- Delivering GCSE level tuition in English, Maths and core subjects (academically able, with significant gaps from prolonged absence rather than a learning difficulty)
- Linking learning to her interests wherever possible, such as dogs and animals, cars, drama, cooking and video editing
- Running weekly coping strategy and mentoring sessions on confidence, identity, self esteem and reintegration
- Breaking tasks into small chunks, giving one instruction at a time, using visual prompts and finished examples
- Working flexibly around her care farm attendance, with a phased build up of hours
- Supporting a gradual, carefully planned move from home towards community based delivery
- Maintaining calm, predictable communication with plenty of reassurance and advance notice of any change
- Working alongside the guardian, school and local authority as part of a wider support plan
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience supporting autistic young people, ideally with an understanding of how autism presents in girls
- Confidence working with anxiety, OCD and Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance
- A calm, warm and consistent style, using an ASD informed approach with a gentle tone and limited eye contact
- Patience to build rapport over time rather than pushing engagement, never applying pressure
- Awareness of sensory needs, and the ability to keep sensory input low in the working space
- Flexibility with days and times (please note Wednesday mornings and school run times should be avoided)
- Comfortable around dogs, as there are two family pets in the home
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Nice to Have
- Shared interests such as animals, drama, filming or cooking can help with rapport building
- Experience with EHCP provision and structured, half termly gap assessment
- Familiarity with approaches named in her plan, such as Zones of Regulation, the Incredible 5-Point Scale and Comic Strip Conversations
