Areterra is a local charity supporting adults with learning disabilities through animals, nature and meaningful community experiences. We are home to a growing collection of animals and are continually developing our site to create the best possible environment for both the people and animals we support.
About the Role
We are looking for a practical, proactive and hands-on individual to join our team as a Facilities & Site Development Assistant.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building, repairing, improving and maintaining facilities and takes pride in seeing projects through from start to finish.
Working closely with our management team, you will play a key role in helping us transform and develop our site over the coming months.
Please note that this is primarily a practical maintenance and site development role and does not involve providing care or support. However, applicants should be comfortable working within a charity environment alongside adults with learning disabilities who access our services.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out general site maintenance and repairs
- Assisting with the construction and improvement of animal enclosures
- Painting and decorating buildings, fences and visitor areas
- Basic carpentry and DIY projects
- Grounds maintenance and site presentation
- Supporting larger development projects across the site
- Monitoring facilities and reporting maintenance requirements
- Helping to ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Practical DIY, maintenance or trade experience
- Ability to work independently and manage your workload
- Good problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience in carpentry, fencing, landscaping or general building work
- Experience working within animal, charity, education or community settings
- Ability to operate basic power tools safely
Additional Information
As part of this role, you will be working within a site that supports adults with learning disabilities. While the position is primarily focused on facilities, maintenance and site development, all staff are expected to contribute to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
As a result, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check prior to employment.
