The Opportunity
We are looking for Basic Scaffolders to join our Scaffold Team on a Permanent contract. You will be responsible for the erection, alteration and dismantling of Scaffolding. You must have the ability to erect, dismantle and alter Scaffold as part of a Scaffolding team. Scaffolders must hold a valid CISRS Basic Scaffold card in order to do the job, equivalent to NVQ Level 2.
How you will make an impact
The Scaffolder should be able to demonstrate and have knowledge of:
· Statutory regulations and safety requirements (including SG4) relating to the erection and dismantling of simple scaffolds.
· The types, uses and purposes of scaffold tubes, boards and fittings in common use.
· The methods of handling and stacking scaffold tubes, boards and fittings, and the inspection procedures.
· The methods of founding scaffolds on three types of surface (ground, concrete and steel).
· The correct and safe means of attaching and staggering joints, and the spacing of standards and ledgers to form scaffold frames.
· The types, methods and spacing requirements for attaching bracing to the various scaffold structures.
· The correct and safe means of attaching and spacing transoms to support working platforms and strengthen the scaffold structure.
· The basic tying pattern for un-sheeted scaffolds and moveable and non-moveable tie arrangements.
· The dimensional requirements of working platforms to comply with the Work at Height Regulations.
· The statutory requirements for access including ladders, and ladder towers and stairways.
· The methods of carrying, raising, lashing, securing, stacking and lowering pole ladders, and the methods of inspection.
· The regulations governing inspection of scaffolds.
· The correct and safe methods of erecting independent and putlog scaffolds with returns, towers and birdcages at three lifts high in tube and fittings.
· The types, uses and methods of inspection, and the correct and safe method of fixing and operating gin wheels.
· Make adequate provision for the safety of themselves, the workforce, the public affected by scaffolding work, and future users of the scaffold structure by working to the relevant British and European Standards, NASC guidance and statutory regulations.
· Select serviceable scaffold tubes, boards and fittings. Use them correctly and safely.
· Select, inspect assemble and install prefabricated beams into and onto scaffold structures.
· Support scaffold protection fans according to requirements of current industry practice.
· Erect scaffolds on pavements and public places safely and correctly, with regard to Local Authority regulations.
· Install spurs and rakers within the correct operating angles. Attach check fittings, droppers and puncheons in the correct positions to scaffolds.
· Install anchor ties and other specialist fixings to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Testing and reporting in accordance with TG4.
· Select, space and install the correct amount of ties to restrain sheeted and un-sheeted scaffolds in unexposed areas, to current industry practices.
· Determine the materials required to set out, erect and dismantle in a safe sequence the scaffolds listed in paragraph 1 of the overall objectives.
· Inspect Basic scaffolds prior to handover.
· Have the skills to lead a Scaffold gang carrying out Scaffolding Operations.
What you will bring:
· Experience of Tube & Fitting (Essential)
· Numeracy, Literacy and Design Technology skills (Desirable)
· Layher/Cuplock/Haki/Plettac system scaffold trained (Desirable)
· Existing training to Basic Scaffolder level
· Minimum 2 years Scaffold experience
· Part 1/Part 2 Scaffold training (Essential)
· NVQ Level 2 Scaffolding (Essential)
· CISRS Basic Scaffolder card holder (Essential)
· CISRS Operative tested (COTS) (Essential)
· Health & Safety tested (Essential)
· Ability to follow instructions
· Practical skills
· Maintain good sense of balance and have a head for heights
· Good hand-to-eye coordination and level of fitness
· Organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team
· Understanding of safe working practices and ability to competently plan working at heights
Other Requirements of the Role
Scaffolders are required to compile a portfolio of work based evidence for assessment against the relevant NVQ level in order to progress to the next level of Advanced Scaffolder NVQ Level 3 over a 12 to 18 month period.
Some travel and working away may be required
