Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Assistant to provide comprehensive support to a young man who is partially deaf, has Autism and Down Syndrome. We work to develop his independence and communication, as his verbal communication is limited. Knowledge of BSL is welcome. Our approach is to bring fun and joy to his learning through enthusiastic motivation, trying and repetition.
Responsibilities
- Encouraging exercise and developing his talents and interests (music, paint, dance, art, construction, trains, acting, dress up, sports and much more).
- Motivate him to communicate
- Develop his independence through engaging with him using his hobbies and interests.
- Inspire him to do simple household tasks together.
- Ensure you are not on your phone throughout your time with him.
- You will be working in a family home and progressively you might be doing some activities outside the home environment. We expect you to be respectful of the family home and our values.
- Be prepared to be challenged by the young man, and keep an open-mind on learning throughout your time with him.

Requirements
- Being interested in neurodivergent populations
- Have an understanding of autism or open to learning about this
- Psychology Degree or equivalent (preferred)
- Students are welcome to apply
- We are introducing BSL, having knowledge of BSL will be helpful, or being interested in learning BSL.
Commitment is a big value, it is very important for consistency for the young man to trust you. Please apply if you can commit to the job.
There will be 3 sessions, unpaid, where you will have an introduction to the young man, for him to build trust and decide on if he would like to work with you.
Probation period is 6 months.
Pay: From £12.71 per hour
