To provide person-centred support to a 10-year-old girl with autism and learning disabilities, enabling her to safely access activities at home and in the community, develop social engagement, and enjoy meaningful experiences that support her wellbeing, communication, and sensory needs.
A welcoming and supportive family is seeking a compassionate Personal Assistant to support their daughter with additional needs. The family is committed to developing a positive, long-term working relationship with the successful candidate and offers a flexible, person-centred approach to ensure the best outcomes for their child.
Social duties:
- Provide safe, person-centred support to a child with autism and learning disabilities in accordance with their individual needs and preferences.
- Support access to activities at home and within the local community, encouraging participation, enjoyment, and social inclusion.
- Ensure the child's safety and wellbeing at all times, including maintaining appropriate supervision during activities and outings.
- Support engagement in sensory-regulating and developmental activities, tailored to the child's interests and needs.
- Assist with communication using recognised communication methods and strategies appropriate to the child.
- Promote independence, confidence, and personal development through positive encouragement and support.
- Support emotional wellbeing by responding appropriately to anxiety, sensory sensitivities, and changes in routine.
- Implement positive behaviour support approaches following guidance, training, and agreed support plans.
- Monitor and manage risks, following established safety procedures and guidance from parents and professionals.
- Accompany the child on community outings and recreational activities, including transport where appropriate.
- Provide supervision and prompts with personal care activities, such as toileting and handwashing, while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Build and maintain a positive, professional relationship with the child and family based on trust, reliability, and respect.
- Work collaboratively with parents and follow agreed routines, guidance, and care strategies.
- Undertake relevant training and continue to develop knowledge and skills relating to autism, learning disabilities, communication, and positive behaviour support.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements at all times.
- Complete any agreed records or reports accurately and promptly where required.
Personal care: Support with personal care when required.

Hours of work: 4 -6 hours per week
Rate of pay: £13.50 per hour (Negotiable)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of autism, sensory needs, and communication support.

- Ability to plan and deliver engaging activities.
- Awareness of safeguarding and child wellbeing practices.
- Relevant training or qualifications in Autism, Learning Disabilities, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Safeguarding, or Positive Behaviour Support.
- Experience supporting non-verbal children.
- Experience supporting sensory, behavioural, or communication needs.
- Experience facilitating community-based activities and promoting independence.
- Experience working within a family home environment.
Essential:
- Experience supporting children with autism, learning disabilities, or additional needs.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Willingness to undertake training.

This role is funded by the Local Authority and is paid 4 weekly.
