NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
Are you a dedicated and ambitious medical professional looking to advance your career? We are pleased to offer an opportunity for a motivated ST3 Doctor to join our General Surgery team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise and have completed at least ST2. We are looking for someone committed to professional development, with strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a busy multidisciplinary team.
This post offers access to mentorship, structured training, and ongoing professional development. You will have opportunities to contribute to research, teaching and a supervised Quality Improvement (QI) project. The role includes participation in the out-of-hours (on-call), supporting acute and elective general surgery patients. You will gain exposure to theatre, including operating lists and a monthly supervised minor ops list. There are also opportunities to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate learners. The department provides a weekly surgical teaching programme, a surgical skills club and monthly audit meetings. Study Leave will be available in line with policy and financial support is provided for one course or conference of your choice.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Ms Lucia Chung, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, to discuss the post further. AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.
-
Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
-
Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
-
Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde encourages applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and are proud of the diverse workforce we employ.
