The Head of Performance Marketing is a commercially driven leader responsible for delivering profitable customer acquisition, growth and revenue across all paid and organic digital channels. This senior role owns the performance marketing strategy, media planning and channel mix optimisation, with a strong focus on profitability, customer lifetime value, forecasting accuracy and new customer growth.
Working closely with PPC , SEO, marketing and brand teams, the Head of Performance Marketing will develop data-led, full-funnel strategies that reach the right customers at the right time, drive online sales and maximise return on marketing investment. The role will be responsible for using insight, testing and optimisation to continually improve the digital customer journey, conversion and overall performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end performance marketing strategy across paid search, paid social, affiliates, programmatic, display, SEO and other emerging digital channels, ensuring the right channel mix and investment to deliver profitable growth.
- Deliver customer acquisition, revenue and profitability targets, with clear ROI, ROAS, CPA and customer lifetime value benchmarks across all digital channels.
- Forecast traffic, media spend, customer acquisition, revenue and contribution margin to support financial planning, budgeting and trading decisions.
- Drive marketing profitability through continuous optimisation of campaigns, media buying, audience targeting, creative, landing pages and customer journeys.
- Lead full-funnel performance strategies across awareness, consideration and conversion, ensuring upper-funnel activity creates a strong pipeline of engaged and valuable customers.
- Develop a deep understanding of the customer, including behaviours, purchase patterns, needs, value and lifetime potential, using these insights to shape targeting, media and creative strategies.
- Partner closely with analytics and data teams to improve attribution, customer segmentation, forecasting and performance reporting, ensuring investment decisions are driven by robust data and insight.
- Work collaboratively with the wider business teams to ensure consistent customer messaging, campaign activity and promotional timing across all digital touchpoints.
- Partner with the wider business teams to identify opportunities to improve conversion, average order value, customer retention and overall online revenue.
- Drive a strong test-and-learn culture across media, audiences, creative, landing pages and customer journeys, using A/B testing and data analysis to continually improve performance.
- Identify and develop new acquisition channels, technologies, automation opportunities and emerging platforms to support sustainable eCommerce growth.
- Manage external media, SEO and affiliate agencies, setting clear performance expectations, negotiating contracts and ensuring delivery against agreed KPIs.
- Lead, coach and develop an in-house team of digital channel specialists, creating a high-performance culture focused on commercial results, insight and continuous improvement.
- Monitor competitor activity, platform developments, changing customer behaviours, industry trends and emerging digital opportunities to maintain a competitive advantage.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proven experience leading a commercially focused performance marketing function within an eCommerce, retail or digitally led business, ideally with significant media budget ownership.
- Strong track record of delivering profitable customer acquisition and online revenue growth.
- Exceptional understanding of acquisition metrics including ROAS, ROI, CPA, CAC, conversion rate, AOV, customer lifetime value and contribution margin.
- Strong commercial, forecasting and budgeting skills, with the ability to balance short-term revenue delivery with long-term customer value and sustainable growth.
- Expert knowledge of paid media platforms including Google Ads, Meta, TikTok and YouTube, alongside programmatic, display, affiliate marketing and SEO.
- Strong understanding of eCommerce analytics, attribution and customer behaviour, with experience using GA4, Looker Studio and other performance reporting tools.
- Experience working closely with data and analytics teams to develop actionable insights, attribution models and data-led investment strategies.
- Strong understanding of the eCommerce customer journey and the relationship between acquisition, conversion, retention and lifetime value.
- Commercially minded, analytical and highly results-focused, with the ability to turn data and insight into clear actions and measurable business outcomes.
