Post: Senior Support Worker – Platform 5 Day Centre
Salary: £23,844
Based at: Nightsafe Office,Blackburn and occasionally at other Nightsafe sites across Blackburn with Darwen with frequent travel across Lancashire and occasional regional/national travel
Hours: 30 hours per week
Flexible working between the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday with
occasional weekends.

Our Mission: Nightsafe will work with young people who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness and will provide accommodation, day centres and information, advice and guidance. We will help with emergency needs and empower our young people to play a positive part in their local community.
Purpose of role:
To plan, develop and deliver a program of personal, social and political education for homeless young people (16-25) in Platform 5 Nightsafe’s daycentre, engaging young people in a wide range of diversionary, creative, educational and recreational activities to broaden and improve their life and social skills to encourage them to enter more formal training, education and employment.
Main Role and Responsibilities Purpose
· To work with all young people using the Day Centre & Night Shelter who are aged 16-25. To work effectively with the Platform 5 & Night Shelter coordinator for move on work, including liaising with Support services, Education & training providers, Children’s Social Care where necessary and will work with young people using the night shelter who are in education, training or employment to ensure they have all the practical support needed to maintain it whilst homeless
- To Case manage 1-1 allocated young people from Nightsafe Shelter
· To offer information, support and guidance to homeless and vulnerable young people
- To encourage young people to participate and to promote their involvement in decision making in all aspects of Nightsafe
· To supervise and guide Volunteers, Students and young people using the Day Centre equipment and facilities
- To refer to and work alongside other agencies with and on behalf of young people
- To work with young people on Outreach to offer practical one to one support, advice and guidance with identified issues and goals
- To record, monitor, evaluate and review the program to ensure it is meeting the needs and outcomes for young people and funding requirements
- To participate in the project cleaning rota & ensuring good standards of hygiene, cleanliness & Health and safety are maintained
- Work in partnership with staff, agencies on direction of donations
- Such other duties as are agreed by the worker and line manager, which are commensurate with the status and grade of the post
- To contribute to Nightsafe’s quality assurance systems including Ofted and the Supporting People Quality Assessment Framework
- To attend & complete all relevant training sessions identified through supervision and in-house training and ensure training records are up to date
- To adhere to all Nightsafe’s policies and procedures

External relationships and influencing
- To build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, partners, commissioners and funders identifying opportunities for development, collaboration and sustainability of Nightsafe services
- Play a key role in the development of local partnerships and networks across East Lancashire area that support the achievement of the organisations vision, mission and objectives.
- To contribute to Nightsafe’s quality assurance systems including Ofsted & the Supporting People Quality Assessment Framework
- Use a range of media to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders (including through reports, media releases, social media and presentations) to promote the work of Nightsafe
- To act as a champion and advocate for young people at risk of homelessness and those in crisis actively looking for opportunities to influence local and national policy and strategic decision makers.
Personal development
- To develop and maintain up to date knowledge of and expertise in policy and practice to support young people at risk of homelessness and those in crisis.
- To develop and maintain knowledge, understanding and effective practice in project development. Participation and marketing and communication.
- Attend training and development as required.
General
- To work as a member of the Nightsafe team, attend staff and communications meetings
- To attend regular supervision/appraisal sessions with the Day Centre & Night Shelter Coordinator.
- To comply with all Nightsafe policies and procedures.
- To be available to work occasionally in the evening and weekends as required.
- To undertake any other duties as commensurate with the grading of the post.

Person Specification – What we need from you
The essential criteria are those things which you must have in order to do the job. Desirable criteria are those qualities that would be either useful, or an advantage to have and/ or are things that you could be trained to do.
Essential Experience/Skills
· Proven track record in running successful Projects
· Experience of using supporter data to attract, engage and drive long-term loyalty.
· Excellent written communication, and demonstrable experience of writing for a variety of audiences.
· Experience of using social media platforms in a professional capacity
· Computer literate-confident user of Microsoft Office (Word, Power-Point, Outlook and Excel).
· Expertise in at least one specific area of and understanding of work including Homelessness, Education and Employment
· Knowledge and understanding of policies related to safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
Desirable Experience/ Skills
· Project skills including planning, monitoring and evaluation, prioritisation and the ability to meet deadlines
· Practical experience of working with disadvantaged young people
· Experience of working with young people using a person centred approach
· Qualification in youth work or similar

· Ability to work flexibly and at pace, often to tight deadlines.
