We are seeking a motivated and dependable HGV Driver & Yard Operative to join our dynamic team. This dual-role position offers an exciting opportunity to combine professional driving with hands-on yard operations. As an integral part of our logistics and distribution network, you will ensure the safe and efficient transportation of goods while maintaining the organization and security of our yard facilities. Your proactive approach and commitment to safety will help us deliver exceptional service to our clients and keep operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate flatbed HGV trucks for the transportation of goods to various delivery locations, adhering to all road safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles to ensure optimal safety and compliance with legal standards.
- Load, secure, and unload cargo on flatbed trucks, ensuring proper handling and adherence to weight limits.
- Manage yard operations by organizing vehicle movements, assisting with vehicle parking, and maintaining a clean, organized yard environment.
- Assist with warehouse duties such as inventory checks, stock movement, and ensuring that deliveries are accurate and timely.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or any issues encountered during transit or yard activities.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, vehicle maintenance, deliveries, and yard activities in accordance with legal requirements.
Skills
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with a focus on flatbed transportation and delivery routes.
- Strong knowledge of driving regulations for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in your region.
- Excellent driving skills combined with a solid understanding of vehicle safety procedures.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as loading/unloading cargo and yard organization efficiently.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with team members and clients.
- Familiarity with yard operations including vehicle maneuvering and basic inventory management.
- Valid HGV license (such as Category C+E) along with relevant certifications for commercial driving.
