The Drama department at Harrodian is seeking to appoint an imaginative, organised, practical and proactive part-time Costume Supervisor (Casual hours, fixed term) to support the management and delivery of the School’s major Junior and Senior productions and, potentially, for wider costume provision, such as for House Drama productions and practical examinations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vibrant and ambitious Drama department in a school with a strong culture of performance and creativity and a strong reputation in the performing arts.
This fixed-term Casual role will run from September 2026 to end of March 2027, aligning with the busiest production period within the department’s calendar. The two main productions are w/c 30th November 2026 and w/c 8th February 2027.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
● experience in costume design, wardrobe supervision, or theatrical costume management;
● strong organisational and practical problem-solving skills;

● an enthusiasm for supporting young people in performance and theatre-making.
Previous experience of working within educational or youth theatre settings would be advantageous. Applicants should be aligned with the School’s values and aims, and demonstrate an understanding of the importance of professionalism, discretion and relationship-building within a school environment.
Purpose
Costume is central to story-telling, characterisation and production value. The Costume Supervisor will maintain and develop the School’s costume resources and oversee the design, sourcing, organisation and management of costumes, ensuring that students across the School perform in costumes that are:
- cohesive and visually impactful;
- appropriate to period, genre and directorial concept;
- professionally organised and fitted;
- delivered efficiently and safely.
Key areas of Responsibility
- Production Costume design, sourcing, fitting and delivery for Junior and Senior productions;
- Costume Store management: cataloguing, maintenance, monitoring stock and implementing systems to support sustainability;
- Student engagement and support: supporting students with costume requirements for practical examination performances, and providing learning opportunities and encouraging collaboration across departments.
Pattern of Work
This post is offered on a part-time, fixed term Casual contract that can be renewed subject to mutual agreement. The post requires a time commitment averaging approximately one and a half days per week (based on an 8-hour day) throughout the contracted period, some of which will allow for working from home, some necessitating being on-site, e.g. for planning meetings, fittings, and production weeks. However, flexibility is essential as additional hours will be required during design periods, fittings, technical rehearsals, performance weeks and exam periods. This may include evening and occasional weekend work. Hours are capped at 350 within the contract and hours worked above this will be agreed in advance with the Head of Drama and paid as overtime.

Salary, Holiday Pay and Benefits
Hourly rate is £20, capped at 350 hours (tracked with the Head of Drama), with additional pre-agreed hours paid as overtime at the rate of £20 per hour. Holiday pay will be pro-rated based on 5.6 weeks.
