JOB DESCRIPTION – COOK
Responsible to: Home Owner/Manager
Purpose: To assist with the planning, preparation and cooking of meals and to maintain clean and hygienic standards within the kitchen area.
Principle Responsibilities:
1. To cook and issue lunch and breakfast each day, and assist in preparation of teas for 15 residents
2. To prepare meal ingredients, and to plan ahead for bulk meal preparation and freeze.
3. To use and clean kitchen equipment and have the knowledge to observe the Food Hygiene (General) Regulations 1970, and the Safer Food Better Business Guidelines.
4. To control stock and maintain records to ensure storage of food in accordance with Health and Safety standards. This will include ordering supplies.
5. To ensure the standards, cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen area and associated equipment.
6. To attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
7. To be responsible for the adherence to standard operating procedure of equipment and proper use and to meet Health and Safety Regulations and other regulations recommended by the Registering Authority.
8. To assist in the responsibility for the cost control procedures and cost effectiveness.
9. To prepare and review menus in conjunction with the Manager.
10. To understand the importance of providing the appropriate diets and special dietary needs.
11. To perform other related duties, not specifically enumerated in this job description, which may from time to time be assigned by the Owner/Manager.
12. To maintain appropriate records accurately.
13. To maintain both business and client confidentiality.
14. To foster good working relationships.
15. To communicate effectively with all staff.
16. To attend staff training, both internal and external, as required, to maintain safe practice.
17. To promote equality and diversity and report any concerns under the whistleblowing policy.
18. To maintain confidentiality of the clients, the home and other staff
19. To understand responsibilities under safeguarding adults and to report any concerns as per the home policy.
20. To take care of the Home and its contents and to consider the appearance of the Home
21. To be caring, sympathetic and tactful when dealing with clients and relatives.
22. To report and write up information, relaying any concerns to the senior members of staff immediately.
