Job Description
Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day management and efficient operation of UK Meal Club’s busy kitchen, taking responsibility for maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, authenticity, presentation, hygiene and service.
The role involves preparing and cooking a wide range of authentic Kerala, South Indian and wider Indian dishes, including curries, biryanis, seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes, using appropriate traditional cooking techniques, spice blends, marinades, curry bases, gravies and sauces.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the Curry Chef, Seafood Chef, Commis Chefs and other junior kitchen staff.
- Allocate duties, oversee preparation and ensure that all kitchen sections are fully prepared for service.
- Ensure dishes are prepared, cooked, portioned and presented in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
- Take responsibility for kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence.
- Assist with menu development, food preparation planning, ingredient ordering, stock rotation, portion control, food costing and waste reduction.
- Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.
- Maintain appropriate food storage and temperature records.
- Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, allergen management, HACCP, health and safety and cross-contamination procedures.
- Train and support junior kitchen staff.
- Monitor performance and kitchen standards.
- Assist with staffing and rotas where required.
- Coordinate effectively with front-of-house staff during busy service periods.
- Participate in stocktakes.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and appropriately.
- Work closely with the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager to maintain an efficient, professional and commercially effective kitchen operation.
- Consistently deliver high-quality food to UK Meal Club’s customers.
Pay: £42,000.00 per year
