Job description - HGV Technician
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced HGV Technician at our commercial vehicle workshops in Peterborough.
Reporting to the Depot Manager, Technicians will take full responsibility for their area of work and will be happy to work unsupervised on our client’s vehicles and trailers. The ability to work on a range of makes and models is required however knowledge and experience of working on Mercedes Benz vehicles would be a distinct advantage, along with the diagnostic and technical experience.
Being in possession of a HGV licence will also be beneficial but is not necessarily essential, as upon completion of your probationary period, and as part of your career development, we can look to support you to obtain this.

As part of a team of highly qualified technicians, your main duties will include:
- Carrying out service, maintenance and repairs on all types of vehicles and trailers.
- Diagnosing and rectifying all types of faults.
- Preparing vehicles for MOT.
- Ensuring all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken whilst on the premises.
- Liaise with parts department to attain parts.
- Ensuring Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to.
- Conforming to all customer site requirements & regulations.
- Ensuring that job cards and service sheets are accurately completed and in a timely manner.
- Upholding a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness both in your own work area and the wider workshop.
- Maintaining product knowledge through your own personal development and training courses.
Candidate Requirements
- A technical qualification (City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 qualified technician) or proven experience repairing & maintaining vehicles.
- A valid driving license.
- Industry knowledge and skills.
- The ability to work within guidelines given and to strict deadlines.
- Be someone who has the ability to actively seek solutions to problems and think outside of the box.
- Can work effectively as part of a team but also independently.
- Possesses good communication and customer care skills.
- Is flexible in approach and able to undertake a wide range of tasks.
- Has an awareness and understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Must be flexible in hours and approach.
- Must have your own tools.
Working Hours:
The hours of work are based on a 40 hour per week basis, either working Monday to Friday 8:30 – 17:00, or on a 4-on-4-off day shift basis working 06:00 – 18:00 across the whole week including weekends. Overtime is available
