Who we are
We're SCL, and we. love. your. hair. We love making it glossy, fresh, dimensional: every shade from inky dark to sun-struck blonde. We do it across three London salons, a stylist co-working space, and a pro-level haircare range. All independent. All women-owned. We're looking for a Creative/Floor Manager to be the permanent leadership presence on our Fitzrovia floor: a working stylist first, a floor leader always.
The role
This isn't an office job, and it isn't a step away from the chair. You'll keep your own clients and your own revenue, while also owning day-to-day leadership of the Fitzrovia floor and Creative team. Think immediate, on-the-floor leadership, not a replacement for the Salon Manager, but the person actually in the room making sure everything runs the way it should.
The exact split between chair time and floor management is still being finalised, but expect a genuine mix of both.
What you'll actually be doing
On the floor
- Consult with clients on their options, listening closely while protecting the health and integrity of their hair.
- Deliver cut, colour, styling and other creative treatments to a genuinely high standard.
- Stay sharp on trends and technique, and put thorough consultation at the centre of every appointment.
- Build the kind of client relationships that turn into repeat bookings and referrals.
Leading the floor
- Own day-to-day leadership of the Fitzrovia floor, with an immediate, permanent presence for the Creative team.
- Have the Fitzrovia Creative Team and Salon Coordinator reporting to you day to day.
- Coach team members in real time, support new starters, and contribute to apprenticeship training roughly every 6 to 8 weeks.
- Keep an eye on service and presentation standards, workflow, timings and diary pressures.
Standards & escalation
- Keep opening, closing and salon standards on point, sorting the smaller stuff as it comes up.
- Support team communication, and escalate anything people-related, performance-related or seriously client-related to the Salon Manager.
- Be the connective tissue between the Creative team, front-of-house and the Salon Manager, catching client concerns before they become formal complaints.
- Follow salon housekeeping and the service wheel, so every client gets the same brilliant, consistent experience.
Brand, marketing & social
- Capture great images and video of your finished work, on brand and to a high standard.
- Keep an active, professional social presence in line with our Social Media Housekeeping guidelines: consistent, high quality, engaged, on-voice, relevant and respectful.
- Show up for training and development sessions, and stay current with new techniques.
Keeping us safe & compliant
- Maintain strict health and safety compliance, keeping equipment and workstations safe and clean.
- Help build a genuine safety culture on the floor, and take part in the required training.
Pay, in plain English
This one's a hybrid, not a flat salary, so here's exactly how it breaks down. You're on an hourly rate of £14.00, and across a typical 40 to 44 hour week that's roughly £29,120 to £32,032 a year before commission. On top of that, you keep the revenue behind your own chair, and our stylists currently average around £1,050 a month in commission. Put together, realistic total earnings land around £41,720 to £44,632 a year, depending on your hours and what you achieve on commission.
