About Tungsten West
Tungsten West is restarting the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin Mine in South Devon.
We're looking for a practical and enthusiastic Survey Technician to join our Technical Services team and play an important role in supporting survey activities across our active open-pit mine.
No previous mining experience is required – full training will be provided.
** This role requires you to pass a Drug and Alcohol test on day one **
The Role
This is a hands-on, predominantly outdoor role. You'll support the survey team with a range of field-based activities and, as your skills and experience develop, you'll have the opportunity to carry out surveys independently.
You'll work with modern survey equipment, including GNSS, total stations and levels, while supporting mine planning, production and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with field surveys across the mine site.
- Set up and operate survey equipment.
- Install and maintain survey pegs, markers and control points.
- Assist with site setting-out and staking activities.
- Carry out surveys independently once trained and assessed as competent.
- Collect, record and manage accurate survey data.
- Support daily site measurements and production surveys.
- Assist with drone survey operations and ground control activities.
- Carry out basic checks and maintenance of survey equipment.
- Work safely around mobile plant and equipment at all times.
About You
We're looking for someone who is practical, reliable and enjoys working outdoors.
You will need:
- Good mathematical and numerical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good spatial awareness.
- A practical and hands-on approach.
- The ability to follow instructions and work independently once trained.
- A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and file management.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
An interest in mining, surveying, geospatial technology or outdoor work would be an advantage.
Desirable Skills
Previous experience is not essential, but the following would be beneficial:
- A qualification in land or engineering surveying.
- Experience using GNSS equipment, total stations or other survey equipment.
- Experience with drones or drone survey operations.
- Experience using Trimble equipment.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, N4CE or similar software.
- Experience working outdoors in construction, quarrying, agriculture or a similar environment.
Training & Development
Full on-the-job training will be provided, covering survey techniques, equipment and site systems.
As your experience and competency develop, you'll have the opportunity to take on a wider range of responsibilities and carry out survey work independently. There may also be opportunities to work towards formal survey qualifications, gain drone pilot certification and progress within our Technical Services team.
Working Environment
This is a site-based role at an active open-pit mine. You should be comfortable:
- Working outdoors throughout the year.
- Walking across uneven ground.
- Carrying survey equipment.
- Undertaking physical and, at times, repetitive tasks.
Please note that Hemerdon Mine has limited public transport access, so a driving licence and your own transport are essential.
The successful candidate will also be required to pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test and comply with the Company's ongoing testing policy.
