About the role:
We have an exciting Head of Department (HOD) opportunity in Blood Sciences at the Croxley Park Hub; we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed experienced Biomedical Scientist who is ready to take the next leadership challenge. This role requires technical oversight and management of Biochemistry and Haematology laboratory sections.
The post holder must use a combination of technical knowledge and skills to ensure that appropriate sample testing is performed safely, accurately and in a timely manner, for every patient, every time, while maintaining the sites contracted performance for routine and urgent TATs. Broadly, the HOD will be responsible for managing their team regarding recruitment, monthly returns, rotas, annual leave approval, sickness absence and HR matters, they also maintain the department QMS, EQA schemes, TATs, and KPI reports.
The Head of Blood Sciences will be working closely with their seniors and a highly skilled team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff with responsibility for providing a comprehensive, high quality 24/7 service for Hertfordshire and West Essex (HWE) GP and Community providers. The role will also include building relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the network and being a key contact and representative for HSL.
The Hub offers state of the art processes, analytics, and pre-analytics. When fully operational, following transition of all sites across the HWE Network, the Hub will process 15,000 samples per day and the ideal candidate will have line management experience within either Biochemistry or Haematology.
A key requirement for this role is to meet the daily operational demands of the lab, where the candidate will need excellent interpersonal skills, be highly organised and able to delegate to keep operations running efficiently and effectively.
An important aspect of this role is the continual development of training, looking at innovative ways to engage and educate their team. This will involve working closely with the Training Officer to ensure competency and training is maintained to the required standard.
