SELF-EMPLOYED GAS & HEATING ENGINEER – PAID PER JOB

Heathstead is looking for experienced, reliable self-employed Gas and Heating Engineers to undertake jobs across our service areas.
This opportunity is available to individual sole traders only. We are not currently engaging limited companies.

- Customer demand and available job volumes
Payment is made at an agreed rate per completed job. This is not an hourly-paid or salaried position.
Potential daily earnings may range from approximately £80 to £800. Actual earnings are not guaranteed and will depend on the number, type, value and location of the jobs you accept and successfully complete.
ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be responsible for:
- Accepting or declining jobs based on your availability
- Contacting customers and attending within the agreed timeframe
- Diagnosing faults accurately
- Completing installations, servicing, repairs and maintenance to a professional standard
- Providing clear job notes, photographs and reports
- Obtaining customer confirmation when work is complete
- Treating customers and their properties respectfully
- Complying with all relevant regulations and health and safety requirements
- Informing us promptly of delays, additional work or problems
- Managing your own travel, workload and business expenses
WHAT YOU MUST SUPPLY
As a genuinely self-employed engineer, you must provide and maintain your own:
- Suitable van or work vehicle
- Fuel, parking and travel costs
- Tools, testing equipment and specialist equipment
- Materials, products, parts and consumables required for your work
- Workwear and appropriate personal protective equipment
- Mobile telephone
- Public liability insurance
- Professional indemnity insurance where applicable
- Vehicle and business-use insurance
- Relevant trade registrations, qualifications and certificates
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
- Current Gas Safe registration, including the appropriate categories
- Relevant heating and plumbing qualifications
- Proven experience completing work independently
- A full UK driving licence
- A reliable van or suitable work vehicle
- Their own professional tools and calibrated testing equipment
- Valid public liability insurance
- A valid Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
- The right to work in the UK
- Good customer-service and communication skills
- The ability to provide clear photographs and job reports
- A professional and dependable approach
DUE DILIGENCE AND COMPLIANCE CHECKS
All successful applicants will be required to complete our due-diligence and onboarding process before receiving work.
Checks may include:
- Proof of identity
- Right-to-work verification
- UTR and self-employment details
- Gas Safe registration and qualification checks
- Driving-licence verification
- Vehicle and business-use insurance
- Public liability and other relevant insurance
- References and previous work history
- DBS check where required
- Evidence of relevant experience
- Verification of tools and testing equipment
- Signed subcontractor agreement and company policies
Providing false, misleading or expired documentation will result in the application being rejected or the working arrangement being ended.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is a self-employed subcontractor opportunity and not an employed, PAYE or hourly-paid position. You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, insurance, vehicle, tools, equipment, products, materials and business expenses.
Work is offered according to customer demand and is not guaranteed. Engineers may accept or decline individual jobs and must only accept work they are properly qualified, insured and equipped to complete.
