Blackpool Zoo is looking for a practical and reliable General Maintenance Assistant to join our Operations team.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll help maintain our buildings, animal enclosures, visitor facilities and grounds, ensuring the zoo remains safe, functional and welcoming for animals, visitors and colleagues.
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in a job well done and is willing to get involved wherever support is needed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out general repairs and maintenance across the zoo.
- Supporting improvements to buildings, enclosures and visitor areas.
- Assisting with grounds maintenance and seasonal tasks.
- Responding to day-to-day maintenance issues.
- Helping keep workshops, stores, vehicles and work areas clean, organised and safe.
- Supporting development projects and new installations across the site.
- Using tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Working closely with colleagues, contractors and other departments to support the smooth running of the zoo.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Experience in a practical, hands-on environment such as maintenance, construction, grounds work, facilities or similar.
- Good DIY and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Physically capable of carrying out manual work.
Desirable
- Experience in maintenance or a trade such as carpentry or plumbing.
- Experience operating machinery or grounds maintenance equipment.
- Experience working within visitor attractions, zoos, parks or similar environments.
