Job Title: Transport Planner (nights, 4-on/4-Off)
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per year (dependent on experience) + Performance Bonus
Shift Pattern: 4 Days On / 4 Days Off (12-Hour Fixed Night Shifts, 6PM to 6AM)

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, highly autonomous Transport Planner to lead our overnight operations. Specialising in general haulage throughout the UK, you will take full accountability for a fleet of over 35 vehicles, ensuring maximum asset utilisation, live tracking, and seamless driver management.
As the single operational point of contact during the night, you must possess strong decision-making skills, sharp commercial acumen, and the ability to confidently navigate network disruptions independently.

Key Responsibilities
- Dynamic Route Optimisation: Cost-effectively plan and adjust live UK transport routes, maximising driver and vehicle utilisation while managing unexpected network disruptions.
- Fleet Oversight & Live Tracking: Actively monitor vehicle movements from point of origin to destination using TMS, ensuring data remains live and highly accurate.
- Driver Brief & Debrief: Manage the overnight driver workflow, ensuring comprehensive briefing/debriefing, checking paperwork, and handling driver queries or vehicle defect reports.
- Strict Compliance Control: Legally and efficiently manage resources ensuring full adherence to EU Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Directive (WTD) legislation, National regulation and Operator Licence obligations.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary, professional point of contact for key customers overnight, proactively reporting any non-conformances or delays in a timely, solution-focused manner.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Act immediately on any reported H&S or fleet issues (such as breakdowns or VORs), mitigating risk in line with company policy.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of dedicated Transport Planning experience within the General Haulage sector is essential.
- Shift Commitment: Fully committed to a permanent 12-hour night shift pattern, including rota'd weekend availability.
- Compliance Expert: Deep working knowledge of Large Goods Vehicles (weights, dimensions, terminology) and driver compliance laws.
- Geographical Knowledge: Exceptional awareness of UK road networks, major routes, and strategic transit corridors.
- Systems: Proficient in modern Traffic Management Systems (TMS) and vehicle tracking telematics.
- Attributes: A self-motivated professional who can work under pressure and can make operational decisions without direct supervision.
