Post No. POSN005326 - Principal Environmental Health Officer - H&S and Public Health
We are pleased to offer a full time, permanent post of Principal Environmental Health Officer leading our Health, Safety & Public Health team within the Environment and Public Health Service.
You will be responsible for the daily management, supervision and leadership of the Team which consists of four Environmental Health Officers. The team delivers a broad remit of Public Health and Safety regulatory functions across the City and the Port.
You will ensure the functions of the team are delivered in accordance with the Council’s and the Service Area’s performance targets and policies. You will ensure the team provide an effective, efficient and responsive service for customers across the City, and be the lead officer on all Health, Safety and Public Health matters.
The successful candidate will see a varied and dynamic role with no two days the same. You will lead on the delivery of day-to-day team functions such as responding to H&S accidents or complaints, delivering projects, inspecting ships under the International Health Regualtions or licensing tattooists. You will have a clear knowledge of the regulatory and public health framework for investigating infectious diseases and a working knowledge of the Outbreak Control Plan for Wales. Knowledge and experience of Sports Ground Safety would be desirable.
You should possess a degree or diploma in Environmental Health and have EHORB registration (or equivalent). You should have a minimum of five years specialist working knowledge and skills in Health and Safety enforcement and Public Health response. Previous experience of managing services and leading a team is desirable. You will have experience of gathering and recording information necessary for statutory returns including the LAE1 return, and in undertaking complicated investigations and prosecutions through to resolution. An understanding of the work related death liaison protocol would be desirable.
