Warehouse Operative / Forklift Driver
JCY Steel Supplies Ltd – Basildon
We are looking for an experienced Warehouse Operative / Forklift Driver to join our busy steel stockholding business in Basildon.
This is a hands-on role in a friendly, cooperative and progressive working environment. The successful applicant will play an important part in the safe and efficient movement, storage and preparation of steel products.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operating a counterbalance forklift to load and unload supplier and company vehicles.
- Moving and storing steel products safely within the warehouse.
- Preparing sheet steel bundles and other materials for collection and delivery, including securing materials on timber pallets.
- Loading JCY Steel Supplies delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Receiving and checking incoming materials.
- Maintaining accurate stock records and assisting with regular stock checks and audits.
- Ensuring materials are correctly stored, identified and handled.
- Carrying out routine safety checks of forklifts and other warehouse equipment and reporting any defects.
- Keeping the warehouse, yard and work areas clean, tidy and organised.
- Following company health & safety procedures at all times.
- Working closely with colleagues to ensure customer orders are prepared accurately and on time.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous warehouse experience, preferably within a steel, engineering, manufacturing or similar environment.
- A valid counterbalance forklift licence and demonstrable experience operating a forklift safely.
- Experience handling heavy materials safely.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when checking and counting stock.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- A reliable and responsible approach to work.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- A good attitude towards health and safety.
Steel experience is advantageous but not essential for the right candidate.

Hours
Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
Friday: 6:30am – 3:30pm
Salary: £13 per hour
