Graduate Technical Sales Engineer – Renewable Energy

This is an excellent opportunity to join Spire Renewables, a fast-growing MCS-certified renewable energy company based in Taff’s Well, Cardiff.
We design, supply and commission air, ground and water source heat pump systems, hybrid systems, air-conditioning, MLCP pipework and underfloor heating for domestic and commercial projects.
The role would suit a recent graduate with a relevant mathematics, science or engineering degree. We would also welcome applications from CAD designers or candidates with a mechanical, electrical or building-services background who are looking to develop a career in the renewable energy sector.
As a Graduate Technical Sales Engineer, you will receive training and support to help you develop the technical and commercial skills required to manage and deliver heat pump and other renewable energy projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce project-specific mechanical and electrical designs and schematics
- Complete heat-loss and heating-demand calculations
- Assist with the sizing and specification of heat pumps, pipework, pumps, controls and electrical components
- Complete underfloor heating calculations and designs
- Prepare technical proposals and quotations
- Respond to and follow up sales enquiries and new business opportunities
- Provide technical support to customers and engineers working on site
- Assist with the management and delivery of heat pump projects
- Ensure designs and project documentation meet MCS requirements
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and installers regarding project requirements and deliveries
- Order and manage products required to fulfil customer orders
- Work closely with other members of the team to ensure projects and contracts are completed successfully
- Maintain accurate customer, project and product information using the Company’s computerised systems
- Maintain technical files, specifications and product literature
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Company’s systems, technical resources and customer communications
- Undertake other reasonable duties relevant to the role as required
Essential Criteria
- An ability to interpret or produce mechanical and electrical schematics or CAD drawings
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and other commonly used applications
- Effective time-management skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
- An ability to organise and prioritise work with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- An ability to manage several projects at different stages
- A self-motivated, organised and positive approach
- An ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to learn and use new software platforms
- Flexibility and a willingness to support other areas of the business when reasonably required
- A full, valid UK driving licence
Desirable Criteria
- A degree in mathematics, science, engineering, building services or another relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Knowledge of how energy is used within buildings
- Experience or knowledge of domestic heating, plumbing or building services
- Experience using CAD or technical design software
Salary and Benefits
- Salary: £28,000–£30,000 per year, depending on experience
- Workplace pension with employer contributions, subject to eligibility
- Discretionary bonus scheme
- 20 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing by one day for each completed year of service up to a maximum of 25 days plus bank holidays
