A career opportunity has arisen for an Extrusion Supervisor at Centaur Manufacturing.
Centaur is an established manufacturing business based in Redditch, Worcestershire since 1974. Our principle activity is the manufacture of PVC-U cable management systems supplied to the electrical industry via 400 electrical distributors throughout the United Kingdom.
The Centaur extrusion section currently operates 24 hours per day, 4 days per week (6am - 6pm and 6pm – 6am). The hours for this position are 6pm – 6am and 6am – 6pm, Monday to Thursday, rotating every 2 weeks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform basic cleaning, lubrication, filter changes and tool changes to minimise equipment wear and avoid downtime. Work with the maintenance team to ensure remedial actions are quickly rectified with minimal plant disruption.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe, clean work area, strictly following and enforcing health and safety standards as well as company policies and procedures.
· Team Leadership & Training: Lead, mentor, and schedule shift personnel. Assist with training plans for production operatives and setters. Ensure tool/colour changes are performed when required.
· Process Setting & Optimisation: Set up and adjust extrusion machinery (e.g., screw speeds, vacuum calibration, temperature zones, and downstream machinery) to process rigid PVC. Perform material colour changes, as well as die and calibrator changes.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure extruded products meet company quality standards, colour matching, and structural integrity standards by overseeing and sometimes conducting regular dimensional checks and visual inspections. Quality control measures are performed electronically.
· Production Targets & Reporting: Monitor and record Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as scrap rates, downtime, and production quantities. Complete shift handovers and production paperwork.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual, with a high attention to detail, good people skills and a proven track record of managing their workload by priority. They will also be proactive in their approach to work with the ability to work to a deadline in a fast-paced environment. The role is hands on and can be physically demanding.
