Legacy Youth Care is looking to appoint a Senior Residential Care Worker, who will work in our new residential children's home based in NE4 postcode, in a supervisory position.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn, help and shape a new residential children's care home from the ground up, with their voice valued every step of the way, and learn from the very experienced leadership team, and work towards becoming a Deputy Manager.
This role is essential for ensuring the well-being and development of children in our care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in childcare, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create and implement effective care plans tailored to individual children's needs. A valid driving licence is preferred to facilitate transportation as required.
Responsibilities
- Put children first, in all that you do.
- Ensure the day-to-day delivery and effective implementation of the home in accordance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015.
- Support staff teams in delivering quality care and support for our children in accordance with the Service Plan.
- Create and maintain a culture within the home that aligns with the values and ethos of the Children's Residential service.
- Deliver Company's responsibilities under the Care Standards Act 2000 and ensure that you contribute to the homes operation in accordance with all relevant legislation for a children's home.
- Help to run the home according to the Statement of Purpose to create a warm and stimulating environment that meets the assessed needs of young people.
- Set an example of practice that contributes to a performance culture that delivers results through rigorous challenge, disciplined delivery, and continual improvement.
- Provide leadership and direction to staff, setting out service goals
- Provide high-quality care and supervision for children, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Develop and implement personalised care plans that cater to the unique needs of each child.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and other staff members to foster positive relationships.
- Monitor children's progress and development, providing feedback to parents as necessary.
- Engage children in educational activities that promote learning and social skills.
- Maintain accurate records of children's activities, behaviour, and any incidents that may occur.
- Collaborate with other childcare professionals to ensure consistency in care practices.
Qualifications
- A minimum of NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential / Health & Social Care working with children in a residential setting (preferably Level 5 Leadership & Management Qualification in residential childcare, or commitment to undertake this when in post).
- At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role in residential children's setting.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills with administrative experience in case recording, rota preparation and report writing.
- Up-to-date safeguarding training and a willingness to pursue further training.
- Excellent command of English (verbal and written) to effectively interact with children and families.
- Familiarity with IT tools to assist you in managing care plans, daily journals, risk assessments and documentation.
- A genuine passion for working with children and contributing positively to their development.
- Clean driving manual licence, held for at least 12 months.
- This is a regulated activity and a clear Enhanced DBS for working with children is required.
- Right to work in the UK and be aged 22 or over.
- Willingness to work patterned shifts (days, nights, weekends and holidays).
- Driving license (manual).

- The current shift pattern consists of two consecutive day shifts (08:00 – 20:00), followed by two days off, then two consecutive night shifts (20:00 – 08:00), followed by a further two days off.

Details:
- Qualified with Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent): £15.00 p/h (base salary of £29,2500 per annum up to £34,650 with up to 10 sleeps per month, when sleeps are required)
