The Hill is a modern British pub with a proper local spirit, right in the heart of Streatham. We're known for well-aged steaks, great burgers, and Sunday roasts worth making plans for — served with a standard of hospitality that goes a step beyond the average pub.
We're looking for a full-time Assistant Manager to lead the floor — someone with genuine restaurant experience who knows what good hospitality actually looks like, and who can bring that higher level of service to a proper neighbourhood pub without ever making it feel stiff or formal.
THE ROLE
You'll be on the restaurant floor for the vast majority of your shift — running service, reading the room, and making sure every table gets the warm, attentive, properly looked-after experience The Hill is known for. You'll work closely with the General Manager and kitchen team to keep service smooth during our busiest, most important trading hours.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Leading floor service during peak trading — present, visible, and hands-on with the team and the guests.
- Setting and holding a genuinely high standard of hospitality: warm welcomes, attentive but relaxed service, and guests who leave wanting to come back.
- Managing the pace and flow of restaurant service — covers, table turns, reservations, and the floor-kitchen relationship.
- Coaching and developing the front-of-house team day to day, leading by example on the floor rather than from behind a screen.
- Handling guest feedback and problem-solving in the moment, with the judgement to know when to involve the GM.
- Supporting with opening/closing duties and shift reporting as part of the wider management team.
- Upholding brand, food, and drink standards consistently, shift after shift.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Restaurant background essential — you understand pace, covers, and service standards in a way pub-only experience doesn't always teach.
- A true love for good food and wine.
- A genuine, demonstrable knowledge of what excellent hospitality looks and feels like, and the ability to instil that in a team.
- Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager, or senior supervisor in a high-quality restaurant or premium pub.
- A natural floor presence — confident leading service, calm under pressure, and comfortable being the one guests and staff look to.
- Someone who wants to raise the bar, not just maintain it — with the standards to match.
- Full-time availability, including evenings and weekends (our busiest, most important trading hours).
WHAT WE OFFER
- A competitive salary, dependent on experience, plus a share of tronc.
- A full-time role with real responsibility and a genuine seat on the management team.
- The chance to shape service standards at one of Streatham's best-loved pubs.
- A warm, close-knit team that cares about the pub, the guests, and each other.
