D C Norris & Company Ltd are a Market leading manufacturer of Food Processing Equipment and systems based in Great Gransden on the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire border.
Due to our continued growth we are looking for an Engineering Buyer to join our company. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a fast-paced, innovative environment, where you'll be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing technical materials, engineered components, and services required for production and engineering projects. This role ensures cost‑effective procurement while maintaining quality, compliance, and timely delivery to support operational and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and procure engineered components, raw materials, tooling, and technical services from approved suppliers
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs to ensure accurate purchasing and supplier understanding
- Evaluate and negotiate supplier quotations, contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve best value
- Manage supplier relationships, including performance monitoring, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure purchased items meet technical and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with Group Companies to obtain volume pricing on high spend areas such as raw materials
- Maintain accurate procurement data, including lead times, pricing, supplier performance, and inventory levels
- Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through alternative sourcing, value engineering, and supplier optimisation
- Resolve supply chain issues, including delays, quality concerns, and specification discrepancies
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by sourcing prototype materials and managing supplier involvement
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and health & safety regulations
Required Skills & Experience:
· Experience in technical or engineering procurement, ideally within manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, electronics, or industrial sectors
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and supply chain principles
- Proven negotiation and supplier management skills
- Competence with ERP/MRP systems and procurement software
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or related field
- CIPS qualification or working toward it
- Experience with strategic sourcing, global suppliers, or project‑based procurement
- Knowledge of quality systems, and regulatory requirements relevant to the industry
