Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Permanent | Panama Shifts | £55,000 + benefits | Coalville, East Midlands
A manufacturing site in Coalville, part of a multi-site business owned and backed by a very large group is modernising its engineering function, and building a brand‑new 24/7 maintenance structure. We’re looking for experienced Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineers who thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment and want to be part of a long‑term improvement journey.
The role
You’ll provide hands‑on maintenance support across a complex site, working on both modern automated lines and older plant that demands strong diagnostic ability. Expect a mix of reactive fault finding, planned maintenance, and involvement in ongoing capital and improvement projects.
What you’ll be doing
- Responding to breakdowns and carrying out structured fault finding to root cause
- Delivering planned preventative maintenance across production and ancillary equipment
- Electrical fault finding and repair on automated machinery
- Mechanical strip‑down, rebuild, and component replacement
- Supporting installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment
- Contributing to engineering compliance, inspections, and safe isolation
- Working closely with production and fellow engineers to improve reliability and reduce downtime
- Supporting continuous improvement and helping develop maintenance standards
- Using your own judgement to plan and execute tasks safely and effectively
Shift pattern
- 24/7 Panama shift
- 12‑hour shifts rotating days and nights
- Every other long weekend off
- Initial work may be on double days while the site transitions to the full Panama pattern without any loss of earnings
Skills & experience Multi-Skilled Permanent Multi-Skilled
Essential
- Time‑served Maintenance Engineer or equivalent with recent manufacturing experience
- Strong electrical bias with proven multi‑skilled capability
- Confident electrical fault finding on automated machinery
- Comfortable working with PLC‑controlled equipment (I/O and sensor‑level fault finding)
- Solid mechanical skills: bearings, gearboxes, drives, pneumatics, general fitting
- Strong diagnostic ability under time pressure
- Able to work independently on shift and take ownership of issues
- Good communication skills and a positive, team‑focused approach
Qualifications
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship or
- NVQ Level 3 (Electrical, Mechanical or Multi Skilled Maintenance) or
- ONC / HNC or similar technical qualification
- Candidates from industrial installation/contracting or ex forces backgrounds will be considered where there is clear evidence of practical maintenance competence and safe working in panels
