As an Airfield Support Team Technician employed within our Airfield Support Team at RAF Brize Norton, you’ll help ensure the effective control, management and Technical Safeguarding of essential Air Traffic Management Equipment and maintain UHF Management Radio Equipment.
Your work will help ensure important Air Traffic Management (ATM) Equipment systems that support the Royal Air Force’s mission are not degraded. It’s a role with real purpose, where your contribution helps to maintain a safe operating environment for air systems and create a positive impact on the people and communities connected to the UK’s largest military airbase.
What you’ll do as an Airfield Support Team Technician
You’ll be entrusted to:

Complete Air Traffic Management (ATM) Equipment Technical Safeguarding (iaw MAA RA 3136).

Maintain, service, install and control Management Radio Equipment (MRE) and Crash Communications Public Address Systems, which supports the Station Crash Plan.

Maintain and control all Station frequency allocations, renewals and updates, including liaison with the Air Radio Reserve Battlespace Management Team.

Participation in Station Siting Boards, providing ATM Equipment Infringement, RADHAZ and Electromagnetic Interference advice.

Progress for resolution when reported, all Air Traffic Management Equipment point-to-point network faults.

Undertake Building Custodian duties for Ground Radio Installation buildings, including building/key control and site access arrangements.

Assisting and collaborating with the RAF Battlespace Management
Engineering Role Office to ensure a Safe Operating Environment. -
Special Features of the role
-
Be willing and able to travel off site to complete MoD and RAF site checks and
specialist training courses; courses typically last one or two weeks.

Be able to manage equipment inventories for MoD supplied equipment.

Must implement and promote a “Zero Harm” open safety reporting culture where all individuals are willing and able to report any issue or event which they believe has or could potentially lead to a Safety risk.

Notify the RAF and Serco management whenever deficiencies emerge that require their attention in respect of safety, risk and compliance.

Deliver continuous improvement to ensure they drive for effectiveness, efficiency and improvements in the output and working environment.

Shall perform other tasks which are reasonable and relevant to Serco and RAF Brize Norton as directed by the RAF and Serco management team
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
Been SC cleared or have no problems obtaining it.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and a science subject.

A Full UK Driving Licence (with less than 6 penalty points) and eyesight colour perception CP2 standard.
- Experience working in an airfield or aviation engineering environment — desirable, but not essential.

Air Traffic Control Ground Radio communication systems or aircraft mechanical/avionics equipment maintenance experience.

An ability to interpret, apply and implement MoD Legislation including Military Airworthiness Authority Regulatory Articles.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including use of all Office 365 Desktop Applications.

The ability to complete a mandatory three-week Airfield Support Team training course at RAF Cosford.

Vetting and Checks
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
