Theatre Nurse
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Scrub Nurse to join our busy surgical team. This role covers all aspects of perioperative care, including scrub, circulating and recovery duties, supporting patients throughout their surgical journey.
Working alongside our surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver safe, high-quality care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-operative Care
- Carry out pre-operative assessments and safety checks.
- Ensure all documentation, consent forms and patient records are complete and accurate.
- Prepare theatre equipment, instruments and consumables for each procedure.
Intra-operative Care
- Scrub or circulate during a range of surgical procedures.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist the surgical team by anticipating clinical requirements throughout procedures.
- Complete instrument, swab and needle counts in line with theatre policies.
- Monitor patient safety and respond appropriately to any concerns during surgery.
Post-operative Care
- Provide care in both Stage 1 (immediate recovery) and Stage 2 recovery.
- Monitor patients following surgery, recognising and responding promptly to any changes in their condition.
- Escalate concerns appropriately and initiate treatment within the scope of your practice.
- Support patient admissions and discharges when required.
- Act as an advocate for patients throughout their recovery.
General Responsibilities
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider clinical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Comply with NMC standards, clinical governance requirements and Centre for Surgery policies.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised theatre environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.
- At least two years' experience working within an operating theatre.
- Experience in scrub, circulating and recovery roles.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A professional, compassionate approach with a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.

Recruitment Process
The recruitment process consists of two stages and may be conducted either in person or via Virtual meeting, depending on circumstances. At least one interview will take place face to-face.
