Somewhere Different – Sheffield City Centre
Are you the sort of person who can walk into a room full of strangers and make people feel welcome?
Do you enjoy talking to people, making them laugh, solving problems and creating a great experience for customers?
If so, you could be exactly the person we are looking for!
Somewhere Different is a unique Sheffield attraction bringing together our Gallery of Illusions, Board Games Café, PlayDeck indoor play area and Squishy Fidget Shop.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing and practical Customer Experience & Venue All-Rounder to join our small team.
This isn't your typical hospitality job. One minute you could be welcoming a family into the Gallery of Illusions, the next helping someone get the perfect photo, serving a drink, explaining a game, sorting out a problem or helping keep the venue looking its best.
What will you be doing?
You'll be one of the friendly faces of Somewhere Different, helping make sure our customers have a fantastic visit.
Your role could include:
- Welcoming customers and making them feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
- Helping customers get the most out of the Gallery of Illusions.
- Chatting to customers and adding to their experience.
- Helping families and children enjoy the PlayDeck.
- Serving drinks and light food in the café.
- Helping customers choose and play board games.
- Keeping the venue clean, tidy and looking great.
- Restocking and organising the shop and café.
- Dealing with questions, problems and the unexpected in a calm and positive way.
- Carrying out small practical jobs and minor fixes when needed.
- Getting involved in creating content for our social media.
- Generally getting stuck in and helping wherever you're needed.
The person we're looking for
We're looking for personality first.
You don't necessarily need years of hospitality experience. What matters most is that you are confident, friendly, enthusiastic and genuinely enjoy interacting with people.
You should be:
- Outgoing and confident – happy approaching customers and starting conversations.
- A great communicator – able to talk comfortably to children, families and adults.
- Proactive – you won't always be waiting to be told what to do; you'll spot what needs doing and get on with it.
- Friendly and approachable – someone who naturally makes people feel welcome.
- Creative – able to think on your feet and come up with solutions.
- A problem solver – when something goes wrong, you'll look for a way to fix it rather than simply saying "that's not my job".
- Practical and hands-on – happy getting stuck into whatever needs doing.
- Reliable and self-motivated – particularly important as there will be occasions when you are working on your own.
- Presentable and professional – you're representing Somewhere Different every time you interact with a customer.
- Fun! – we're all about creating memorable experiences, so a good sense of humour and a positive attitude are definitely a bonus.
Working at Somewhere Different
You'll be joining a small, friendly team, so everyone gets involved.
You will generally work alongside another member of the team, although there will be occasions when you will be responsible for the venue yourself. Because of this, you need to be comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for getting things done.
The role will initially be 2–3 days per week, with the possibility of additional hours as the business grows.
We currently operate mainly during the daytime, but we're looking at introducing a couple of evening sessions each week. Therefore, flexibility around working days and occasional evenings would be an advantage.
Social Media
We're also looking to take our social media to the next level.
If you enjoy taking photos, making videos, coming up with ideas, appearing on camera or simply have an enthusiasm for social media, we'd love to hear about it.
You don't need to be a social media expert — we're looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to get involved.
Hospitality experience?
Experience in hospitality, customer service, cafés, attractions or retail would be an advantage, as would experience serving food and drinks.
However, the right personality is more important to us than having the perfect CV.
If you're enthusiastic, confident, friendly, practical and enjoy making people's day a little better, we'd love to hear from you.
Think you'd fit in at Somewhere Different?
We'd love to hear from you.
Tell us a little about yourself, your experience and, most importantly, why you think you'd be a great addition to the Somewhere Different team.
