Seam Miller
We're looking for experienced and motivated Seam Millers to join our Production team at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Middlesbrough. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you'll play a key role in the production of large-scale offshore wind monopiles, carrying out precision milling operations on steel plate weld seams while ensuring safety, quality and productivity standards are consistently achieved.

The role will initially be working a day shift at £19.07 per hour plus a 12.5% commissioning allowance. Shift patterns are expected to be introduced within the next 4-6 weeks, moving to a rotating pattern of days and nights with enhanced earnings of £19.07 per hour plus 30% shift allowance.
This is a full-time permanent position, working 40 hours per week, with a competitive pension scheme and Medicash healthcare plan available.
What you'll do day to day
As a Seam Miller, you'll be responsible for milling longitudinal and circumferential weld seams to predetermined depths prior to welding operations on monopile components. Working with both fixed and portable milling machines, you'll ensure all work is completed in line with engineering specifications, quality standards and production schedules.
You'll work with large steel plates, cans and cones used in monopile fabrication, utilising overhead cranes and specialist milling equipment to prepare weld areas for subsequent manufacturing processes. You'll also identify and report quality, safety and production issues while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement across the facility.
Key Responsibilities

Operate fixed and portable milling machines to mill longitudinal and circumferential weld seams to required specifications.

Lift and position cans, cones and milling equipment using overhead cranes.

Set up milling equipment and adjust tooling to achieve specified milling depths.

Carry out grinding activities in preparation for milling operations.

Inspect, maintain and replace cutting tips and consumables as required.

Record milling depths and maintain accurate production documentation.

Complete quality control inspections using measuring equipment.

Perform routine maintenance, cleaning and housekeeping of equipment and work areas.

Identify and report equipment faults, hazards, defects and safety concerns.

Support production targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality and workmanship.

Assist colleagues and collaborate across production teams to ensure efficient operations.

Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to support productivity and operational efficiency.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll have experience operating milling machinery within a heavy engineering, steel fabrication or manufacturing environment. You'll be comfortable working with large steel components and interpreting engineering requirements to produce high-quality work safely and efficiently.
You'll possess strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Requirements

Minimum two years' experience in a heavy engineering, steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Experience operating milling machines, machine tools or similar production equipment.

Ability to use manual grinding equipment.

Experience using overhead cranes.

Ability to use measuring equipment for quality control checks.

Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.

Desirable Requirements

Previous experience milling weld seams or working on large-diameter steel structures.

Heavy engineering, offshore, energy or steel fabrication experience.
