About the Role:
Balfour Beatty is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Civil 3D Technician to join our UK Construction Services Regional Scotland team. In this role, you will provide modelling and drafting support for the design and delivery of temporary works solutions on a wide range of civil engineering and construction projects.
Working closely with temporary works engineers, coordinators and operational teams, you will use Autodesk Civil 3D to develop accurate, safe and compliant designs that support the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise and a passion for innovative engineering solutions to contribute to some of the UK's most exciting construction projects.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Civil 3D models for temporary works, including:
- Alignments, profiles and corridors
- Excavation layouts using gradings
- Working platform layouts
- Surface creation
- Volume analysis
- Produce high-quality 2D drawings and 3D visualisations.
- Ensure temporary road layouts comply with relevant standards, including DMRB.
- Coordinate with engineers and project teams to ensure designs are buildable, safe and accurate.
- Identify and help mitigate design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support continuous improvement of CAD standards, BIM processes and design workflows.
- Provide technical support to work-winning and tender activities.
- Exercise designer obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Promote a strong "Safety by Design" culture.
- Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
Who we're looking for
We're seeking a technically skilled and collaborative individual who can bring expertise and innovation to our temporary works design team.
Essential:
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and a strong understanding of modelling workflows.
- Experience producing detailed design models, drawings and visualisations within a civil engineering or construction environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver accurate and organised design outputs.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and developing practical, buildable solutions.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities across a range of projects.
- A strong commitment to safety and the principles of temporary works design.
Desirable:
- Experience with InfraWorks, Navisworks and Revit.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and digital engineering best practice.
- Familiarity with infrastructure projects involving roads, rail or major civil engineering works.
