Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our busy, caring nursery setting. This role is central to supporting the health, wellbeing, and daily routine of our children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing nutritious food, strong knowledge of food safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. You will play a key part in maintaining our 5‑star food hygiene rating and contributing to a positive, team‑focused atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Prepare healthy morning and afternoon snacks for all children.
- Dish up a freshly prepared nursery lunch each day, with occasional requirements to cook additional side dishes.
- Cook a nutritious tea for a large nursery setting, ensuring meals are balanced, appealing, and age‑appropriate.
- Manage and follow all allergy information carefully, ensuring strict adherence to individual dietary needs and allergy protocols.
- Clear and wash all meal‑time dishes for the nursery, maintaining excellent organisation and efficiency.
- Keep the kitchen clean, tidy, and compliant with all food hygiene and safety regulations, supporting the nursery in upholding its 5‑star rating.
- Ensure all food is stored correctly, ingredients are fresh, and stock levels are monitored.
- Assist with meal planning and contribute ideas for varied, child‑friendly menus.
- Work collaboratively with the nursery team and engage positively with staff and children.
- Take part in our Little Chef Programme, supporting children to create simple dishes, bake, and explore food in a fun, educational way.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in food preparation or cooking roles, ideally within a nursery, school, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and safe handling of allergies.
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals efficiently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Understanding of dietary needs and restrictions for young children.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, especially during busy service periods.
- Good communication skills and a positive, team‑focused attitude.
- A genuine passion for working with children and contributing to their development through healthy eating.
- Previous restaurant, catering, or serving experience is beneficial but not essential.
Training & Development
- Food hygiene and food preparation training can be provided for the right candidate.
- Willingness to undertake safeguarding training, paediatric first aid, and any additional food‑related training required for the role.
- Ongoing support and development opportunities within the nursery team.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Pay: Up to £27,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
