The Engineering Manager provides specialist engineering expertise and functional leadership for multidisciplinary engineers developing avionics and robotic systems. The role is responsible for technical direction, people leadership, and engineering excellence, while also contributing to the successful delivery of selected programs and projects. This position balances long-term capability development with near-term execution, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, high-quality, and aligned with organisational objectives.
Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
What you’ll being doing (but not limited too):
Provide specialist engineering expertise and direct functional leadership to avionics and robotics engineers, including performance management, coaching, and professional development
Identify, lead and manage relevant business partnerships and sub-contracts
Set and maintain technical standards, processes, and best practices across avionics and robotics disciplines
Guide and contribute to development of system architectures, design decisions, and technical trade-offs in collaboration with principal engineers and stakeholders
Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace, safety, and regulatory standards throughout the development lifecycle
Support and lead project delivery for assigned programs, including planning, risk management, and resolution of technical issues
Collaborate with product, programme, and operations teams to align engineering priorities with business objectives
Ensure appropriate and effective application of the Engineering policies, the Engineering Life Cycle and their manifestation in Design Reviews and Technical Bid Reviews. Organise and lead design reviews as required
Build and maintain a high-performing engineering culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement Essential Skills and Experiences:
Priory engineering experience in relevant discipline, including several roles in a lead or management role
Specialist in avionics systems, embedded systems, and/or robotic control architectures
Systems engineering principles and lifecycle management
Aerospace and safety-critical development standards (e.g., DO-178, DO-254, ISO, IEC)
Technical decision-making and problem solving in complex systems
People leadership and team development
Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
Verification, validation, and test methodologies
Desired Skills and Experiences
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field (Masters preferred)
Significant industry experience in avionics, robotics, or related embedded systems domains
Prior experience leading engineering teams in a functional or line-management capacity
Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments
Project or program delivery experience
