Job Description: Management Accountant Location: Kirkham, near Preston Reports to: Fractional Finance Director Contract: Part-time (20 hours pattern to be agreed)
Purpose - To manage the day-to-day finance function, oversee transactional processing, produce timely and accurate management information and support business decision making. Supporting all entities within the Smart Group, including Smart IT UK and Smart IT Canada, ensuring consistency of reporting, controls and financial management across the Group. The role works closely with the Fractional Finance Director and provides supervision and development support to the Finance & Operations Assistant.
Key Responsibilities-
Financial Control
- Review sales invoicing processes and completeness
- Review purchase ledger and supplier payments
- Review bank reconciliations
- Review VAT returns prior to submission
- Maintain fixed asset register oversight
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain financial controls and procedures
Management Reporting
- Produce monthly management accounts
- Prepare P&L, balance sheet and cashflow reports
- Analyse margins and profitability
- Prepare KPI reporting packs
- Provide commentary on business performance
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Maintain rolling cashflow forecasts
- Prepare annual budgets
- Update monthly forecasts
- Support resource and project profitability planning
Business Partnering
- Work with operational managers
- Review WIP and deferred income
- Support commercial decision making
- Identify profit improvement opportunities
Leadership
- Supervise Finance & Operations Assistant
- Review work quality and accuracy
- Deliver coaching and training
- Improve processes and controls
External Liaison
- Work with HR & payroll provider
- Liaise with external accountants
- Support year-end reporting
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications - ACCA/CIMA student or AAT qualified with relevant experience.
