Job Summary
FDL is a family run Business within the Birmingham area that was established in 1948. FDL Produce heavy metal pressings and welded assemblies for the automotive, domestic and yellow goods industries.
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Yard Person to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the organisation and cleanliness of the yard area, assisting with vehicle movements, and providing excellent customer service. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, supporting the overall efficiency of our operations.
We are ideally seeking a candidate with previous experience within the manufacturing industry, excellent fork lift truck competency, organised and self-motivated.
The role will consist of organising and maintaining a tidy and safe yard area and providing manufacturing with the tools they need to run production. Along with ensuring safe and efficient control of vehicles delivering and collecting from site
Duties
- Effectively control all activities undertaken in the yard
- Ensure that potential safety and health hazards are eliminated or controlled through regular review of work activities, equipment and facilities
- Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe yard
- Operation of counterbalance Fork Lift Truck (experience required)
- B1 License Required
- B2 License desirable (training can be provided)
- Banksman (Training can be provided)
- Loading & Unloading Vehicles
- Organise & store Tooling & Equipment in designated areas
- Liaise with Despatch & Goods inwards on vehicle access & egress
- Arrange tooling & stillages to ensure production requirements are achieved
- Scrap Metal & Waste Organisation
- Segregate waste and recyclable materials in line with company procedures
- Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Manual handling and lifting required.
- Conduct routine inspections of yard equipment and report any faults or maintenance requirements
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Proactive approach to work
- Safe movement and storage of press tools
Requirements
- Valid FLT License
- Previous janitorial or yard maintenance experience is advantageous.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional manner.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Organised, reliable, and able to follow safety procedures diligently.
- Good physical fitness to handle manual tasks such as lifting or moving heavy items when necessary.

Pay: £14.00-£14.50 per hour
