Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Registered Manager, the Care Manager will be responsible for supporting the safe, effective and compliant day-to-day operation of the service.The Care Manager will provide leadership and oversight to the Field Care Managers, Supervisors and Scheduler, ensuring that responsibilities are clearly delegated, completed within appropriate timescales and carried out to the required standard.The role will be responsible for maintaining high standards of person-centred care, monitoring service quality, supporting staff performance and ensuring that Welcombe Care remains compliant with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.The successful candidate will provide structure, accountability and leadership across the service, identifying areas for improvement and working collaboratively with the wider management team to drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Service Management and Leadership
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the service, ensuring care is delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with each service user's needs and preferences.
- Lead and provide effective oversight to a small team of Field Care Managers, Supervisors and a Scheduler.
- Set clear expectations, procedures and standards for the team and ensure these are consistently implemented.
- Monitor delegated responsibilities and ensure that required tasks, reviews and actions are completed accurately and within appropriate timescales.
- Hold regular management meetings, ensuring appropriate agendas are prepared and current operational issues, risks and areas for improvement are addressed.
- Regularly meet with Field Care Managers and other members of the management team to review performance, gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve service delivery and staff morale.
- Escalate persistent performance, conduct or compliance concerns to the Registered Manager and Director where appropriate.
Care Quality and Service User Oversight
- Maintain effective oversight of the care needs and circumstances of all service users, ensuring that changing needs are identified and responded to appropriately.
- Ensure care plans and risk assessments are reviewed regularly and accurately reflect the current needs, preferences and risks of each service user.
- Ensure appropriate quality monitoring, spot checks, competency assessments and care reviews are completed by the relevant manager within required timescales.
- Monitor daily care records and ensure that any concerns, omissions or discrepancies are identified, addressed and appropriately audited.
- Monitor the overall quality of care through regular audits, identifying trends and implementing appropriate corrective action.
- Review incidents and accidents, ensuring appropriate actions are taken and that learning is used to promote continuous improvement.
- Respond appropriately to concerns, complaints, incidents and emergencies, ensuring these are investigated, recorded and escalated where required.
- Liaise with service users and their families regarding concerns or feedback about the care provided by Welcombe Care.
Staff Management and Development
- Support Field Care Managers and Supervisors in effectively managing their teams and maintaining appropriate standards of performance.
- Ensure staff receive appropriate support, supervision and regular 1:1 meetings through the relevant manager.
- Monitor staff performance and ensure appropriate action is taken where standards are not being met.
- Ensure all staff remain up to date with mandatory training and required competencies.
- Support the induction and ongoing development of new staff, ensuring they understand and adhere to Welcombe Care's policies, procedures and expected standards.
- Promote a positive culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
Compliance and Regulatory Requirements
- Ensure the service operates in accordance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, CQC standards, company policies and procedures.
- Maintain effective oversight of compliance documentation and ensure required audits, reviews and assessments are completed within appropriate timescales.
- Ensure the service remains inspection-ready and that records and evidence are maintained to demonstrate compliance and good practice.
- Identify areas of regulatory or operational risk and escalate these appropriately to the Registered Manager and Director.
- Support the Registered Manager in preparing for CQC inspections, audits and other regulatory reviews.
On-Call and Operational Requirements
- Participate in and manage the on-call rota as required.
- Provide appropriate support and decision-making during operational incidents, emergencies and out-of-hours situations.
- Some weekend and bank holiday working will be required as part of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous senior-level experience within domiciliary care.
- Proven experience of leading and managing a small team.
- Strong understanding of person-centred care and the requirements of delivering care within people's own homes.
- Experience of formulating and reviewing care plans and risk assessments.
- Experience of quality monitoring, auditing and maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
- Confident in addressing performance issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Hold, or be willing to work towards, an NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
