Role summary

The Marketing Executive supports the successful delivery of PLOS' marketing and communications strategy, delivering activity across campaigns, digital channels, events and other marketing initiatives. The role combines hands-on marketing delivery with strong coordination skills, helping translate marketing plans and briefs into effective activity across web, advertising, events and marketing assets.
Working collaboratively across Marketing & Communications and with wider organisational stakeholders, the Marketing Executive takes responsibility for defined marketing activities and projects, ensuring they are delivered effectively, on time, to brand standards and with appropriate measurement and evaluation.
Responsibilities
Marketing and campaign delivery
- Deliver and coordinate marketing activity across a range of channels, including web, digital advertising, events and other campaign activity.
- Work from agreed marketing briefs and campaign objectives to implement activity effectively, accurately and to agreed timelines.
- Support the creation, production and implementation of campaign assets, including landing pages, digital content, multimedia and marketing collateral.
- Make routine web content updates across PLOS marketing platforms, working within agreed brand, accessibility and digital best-practice standards.
- Support the set-up, delivery and ongoing management of display and other digital advertising activity.
- Coordinate webinars, sponsorships and other marketing-led initiatives from brief through to delivery.
- Take ownership of defined marketing projects and activities, coordinating with colleagues and stakeholders as required.
- Work collaboratively with marketing specialists, contributing to the effective delivery of larger or more complex campaigns and projects.
- Monitor and collate performance information for campaigns and marketing activity using agreed measures and reporting tools.
Events and external activities
- Coordinate PLOS attendance at selected conferences and events, managing logistics, materials, suppliers, deadlines and relevant budgets.
- Liaise with conference organisers, suppliers and other external partners to ensure requirements are understood and delivered effectively.
- Work with Marketing & Communications, Editorial, Sales and other stakeholders to ensure event activity supports agreed marketing and organisational objectives.
- Coordinate associated marketing activity before, during and after events, including promotional materials, digital activity and audience journeys.
- Evaluate event activity using agreed measures, capturing outcomes and recommendations to improve future activity.
Knowledge and skills
- Experience delivering marketing campaigns, events, digital activity or other multi-channel marketing initiatives.
- Good understanding of digital marketing fundamentals, including web content, digital advertising, campaign tracking and performance measurement.
- Experience with Google Ad Manager or other digital advertising platforms is desirable.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines.
- Confident and clear communicator with the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, internally and externally.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to undertake effective quality assurance across marketing activity and assets.
- Familiarity with supplier management, budgeting and event logistics.
- Able to work within established brand, accessibility and digital standards while bringing a creative eye to marketing delivery.
- Proactive and practical approach to problem solving, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Collaborative and team-oriented, while able to take responsibility for defined activities and projects.
- Interest or experience in multimedia and digital content production is desirable.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
- Publishing experience preferred.
Physical requirements and work environment
- Occasional national and international travel will be required.
- Flexibility to support events outside typical working hours when necessary.
- Prolonged periods stationary at a desk and working on a computer.
- Some flexibility to work across time zones.
The base salary range we've established for these positions is (UK) £35,000- £39,000. PLOS also offers a comprehensive benefits package summarized below.
