The Role
The Sheridan Group is looking for an ambitious Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone in the early stages of their QS career who wants exposure to a wide variety of construction projects and the opportunity to progress quickly within a growing group of companies.
You will work alongside our senior commercial team, assisting with the financial and commercial management of projects from initial tender through to final account.
Our work covers construction, refurbishment, facilities management, fire systems, scaffolding, concrete and associated building services, giving the successful candidate broad commercial experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with preparing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts
* Assist with valuations and applications for payment
* Measure works and prepare bills of quantities
* Assist with tendering and subcontractor procurement
* Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations
* Prepare subcontract orders and commercial documentation
* Monitor project costs against budgets
* Track variations and additional works
* Assist with pricing variations and change control
* Support preparation of monthly CVRs
* Assist with subcontractor valuations and payments
* Maintain accurate commercial records
* Attend site and project meetings where required
* Work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and Site Managers
* Assist Senior Quantity Surveyors with final accounts
* Identify potential commercial risks and opportunities
* Help ensure projects achieve their targeted margins
Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
* 1–3 years’ Quantity Surveying experience preferred
* Experience within a construction, refurbishment or building services environment
* HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar preferred
* Good numerical and analytical skills
* Strong Excel and IT skills
* Good communication and organisational skills
* Commercial awareness and willingness to learn
* Ability to work across multiple projects
* Full UK driving licence preferred
We would also consider a Quantity Surveying graduate with the right attitude and some practical construction experience.
What We’re Looking For
We don’t just want somebody who wants to sit behind a desk processing figures.
We’re looking for an ambitious, commercially minded individual who wants to learn how projects work from tender through to completion and develop into a strong Quantity Surveyor.
You should be comfortable visiting sites, speaking with subcontractors and suppliers, challenging costs and working closely with operational teams.
