As an ambitious and growing business, we are looking to work with an experienced Business Development Consultant who shares our passion for improving patient care while helping us build strong relationships across the healthcare and care sectors.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a self-employed Business Development Consultant to support the continued growth of Home Focus Opticians.
This is a flexible consultancy opportunity, ideal for someone with experience within the optical, healthcare or social care sectors who enjoys building relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
You will play a key role in introducing our services to care providers, healthcare professionals and community organisations, helping increase awareness of our domiciliary eye care service across the region.
The amount of consultancy work is expected to increase as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop relationships with care homes, retirement living communities, sheltered housing schemes and domiciliary care providers.
- Introduce our services to GP practices, community nursing teams, hospital eye departments, social workers, occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals.
- Identify and develop new referral opportunities across both NHS and private sectors.
- Attend networking events, exhibitions and community events to represent Home Focus Opticians.
- Follow up enquiries from prospective clients and referral partners.
- Work alongside the Director to develop local marketing and business development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of business development activity and provide regular progress updates.
- Identify local market opportunities and monitor competitor activity.
- Act as a professional ambassador for Home Focus Opticians.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience in business development, sales or relationship management.
- Experience within optical, healthcare, community care or social care.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence speaking with senior decision-makers.
- The ability to work independently and manage their own workload.
- A full UK driving licence and access to their own vehicle.
Desirable
- Experience as a Dispensing Optician, Optical Practice Manager, Optical Sales Representative, Care Home Manager or similar.
- Previous experience working with care homes or retirement living providers.
- Existing relationships within the healthcare or care sector.
- Experience supporting a growing business.
Consultancy Arrangement
- Self-employed contractor (not an employed position).
- Flexible consultancy arrangement with no fixed working hours.
- Consultant responsible for their own tax and National Insurance obligations.
- Initial consultancy agreement with the opportunity for an ongoing relationship.
- Consultant may undertake work for other clients, provided there is no conflict of interest.
Fees & Expenses
- Competitive hourly or daily consultancy rate, depending on experience.
- Business mileage and pre-approved expenses reimbursed.
- Opportunity for performance-based incentives linked to new business generated.
Pay: £17.00-£25.00 per hour
