Chalk Education are recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Maghull on a full-time, long-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong sporting background who can engage, motivate and inspire students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support both inside and outside the classroom. Many students respond well to positive role models who can build strong relationships through shared interests such as sport, fitness and team activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons
- Supporting pupils during sports, enrichment and outdoor activities
- Helping students develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills
- Implementing behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
Requirements
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
- A strong sporting background (coaching, sports degree, fitness industry, team sports, personal training or similar)
- Calm, resilient and proactive approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to act as a positive role model
- Passion for supporting young people facing social, emotional and behavioural challenges
Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.
