JOB DESCRIPTION – CUTTING SHOP OPERATIVE
JOB TITLE: Cutting Shop Operative
REPORTING TO: Cutting Shop Supervisor
SALARY: Based on Experience
JOB PURPOSE: The postholder will interpret drawings to operate machinery in the cutting shop in the following areas: Folding Section, Plasma Section, Drilling Section, Sawing Section (including pipe bending) and Tube Laser. The postholder will be trained in all areas and expected to carry out the duties required for each area efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Delivery
1. To read and clearly understand engineering drawings and follow correctly, determining cutting locations and any potential hazards during the job;
2. Meet set targets with regards to production output and deadlines;
3. Complete training in the following areas: Folding Section, Plasma Section, Drilling Section, Sawing Section (including pipe bending) and Tube Laser;
4. Program and operate CNC plasma profiling machine;
5. Handle and move materials and pieces, including the safe loading and unloading of machines;
6. Read work orders and plan work sequence;
7. Set controls for speed, feed rate depth and angle;
8. Determining the appropriate cutting method, including manual sawing with a hand saw or power saws such as a circular saw or chainsaw;
9. Operating a saw to cut sheet metal;
10. Setting and operating the tube laser;
11. Optimise programs for cycle time reductions;
12. Organise and stack components for the next production stage;
13. Monitoring and maintaining machines in good working condition to ensure safety including completing daily maintenance checks and basic maintenance of machinery;
14. Detect and report any defects with the laser and material;
15. Ensure internal customers are supplied all products as needed;
16. Quality:
Ensure that all parts are folded to the correct standard
Ensure that all parts produced from all machines are of a high-quality that meets the required tolerances and specifications;
17. Ensure proper handling of equipment and storage of all tools;
18. Safe and controlled movement of production parts ie lifting and transporting components in the workshop using Gantry and Jib cranes;
19. Leave working areas in a fit state to ensure no unnecessary health and safety risks prevail. Work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself and other colleagues.

Essential
Qualifications,& Experience
- ·1-2 years’ experience operating a machine within the cutting shop in a similar engineering environment following rigorous work schedules and folding materials to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, work instructions and specifications.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes.
Skills and Competencies
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to deal with individuals at all levels of the business successfully;
- Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative;
