Job Purpose
The Cafe Assistant supports the day-to-day operation of a busy café by preparing and cooking food, maintaining high standards of hygiene and delivering excellent customer service. The role requires someone with kitchen and food preparation experience who can work efficiently, remain calm under pressure and contribute to the smooth running of the café while maintaining quality and consistency across all food service activities.
- Prepare, cook and serve food in line with café menus and quality standards.
- Carry out food preparation tasks efficiently and safely.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and café environment.
- Follow food safety procedures, including safe handling, storage and preparation of food.
- Support the smooth operation of the café during busy service periods.
- Ensure customer orders are prepared accurately and presented to a high standard.
- Work effectively as part of the café team while also being able to use initiative when working independently.
- Manage workloads, prioritise tasks and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor stock levels and support with basic stock management and replenishment.
- Provide friendly and professional customer service.
- Follow health and safety requirements and café procedures.
Essential
- Previous experience in a chef, kitchen assistant, food preparation or catering role.
- Experience preparing and cooking food in a busy kitchen or café environment.
- Good understanding of food hygiene, cleanliness and safe working practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude with a commitment to providing good customer service.
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Certificate or relevant catering qualification.
- Experience working in a café, hospitality or customer-facing environment.
- Experience working with a small menu and managing food service independently.

- Hours per week: 24.
