Overview of the role
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the sourcing, procurement, and supply chain function underpinning LMN Motors' vehicle stock — including sourcing through Japanese auction channels, management of sourcing agents and logistics suppliers, and control of purchasing cost against margin targets. The role ensures the Company's stock acquisition process is cost-effective, reliable, and compliant with UK import requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Determine which vehicle makes, models and specifications to source, in line with UK market demand and required profit margins
- Set and maintain purchasing standards — acceptable auction grade, condition and accident-history criteria — to ensure consistent vehicle quality
- Assess Japanese auction condition reports, set the maximum bid price for each vehicle, and instruct sourcing agents accordingly
- Coordinate shipping schedules, customs clearance and UK registration requirements, including IVA where applicable, to ensure timely stock availability
- Establish and manage relationships with sourcing agents, freight and shipping providers, and import compliance
- Negotiate pricing and contractual terms with suppliers, and review agreements on a regular basis
- Monitor the total landed cost of each vehicle — purchase price, agent commission, freight, duty, VAT and compliance costs — against approved margin targets
- Inspect incoming vehicles against their condition reports and resolve any discrepancies with the relevant supplier
- Identify and evaluate new sourcing agents and suppliers to strengthen and diversify the Company's supply base
- Ensure all purchasing and import activity complies with relevant UK regulations
- Source vehicles from UK private sellers by reviewing listings and direct enquiries, assessing each vehicle's condition, history and market value, and negotiating the purchase price
- Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, supplier and agent agreements, and vehicle sourcing activity, to support audit and compliance requirements
