Dugdale Merchants is a well-established, family-run builders' merchant with a strong local reputation built over more than 30 years. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a motivated and professional Sales Advisor to join our team.
We're seeking someone with proven customer-facing sales experience who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and helping customers find the right solutions. While experience within the building materials sector would be an advantage, we are equally interested in candidates from other sales-driven environments who can demonstrate strong commercial awareness, initiative, and a genuine desire to learn.

The Role
- Serve trade and retail customers at the counter, by telephone, and via email
- Understand customer requirements and provide appropriate product solutions
- Prepare quotations, process orders, and manage enquiries efficiently
- Build strong relationships with existing customers to encourage repeat business
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and add value for customers
- Support the development of new customer relationships and local business opportunities
- Follow orders through to completion, ensuring a high standard of customer service
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the branch to support day-to-day operations
- Contribute positively to the continued growth of the business
What We're Looking For
- Previous sales experience in a customer-facing environment
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A proactive and professional approach
- Confidence dealing with a wide range of customers
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a busy environment
- Comfortable using computer systems and processing customer orders
- A willingness to learn new products and develop industry knowledge
Experience That Would Be Beneficial
Experience within a builders' merchant, trade counter, wholesale, distribution, or similar commercial sales environment would be advantageous but is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with strong sales ability, excellent customer service skills, commercial awareness, and a proven track record of building customer relationships and generating repeat business. Full product and industry training will be provided for the right candidate.

Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
Saturday rota: 2 in 4 (8:00am – 12:00pm)
