Job Type: Permanent, full time
Salary: £50,000–£65,000 depending on experience

Role Overview
The Technical Support Specialist is a technical and customer-facing role providing specialist technical support across BP Rolls’ EV, commercial vehicle and MAXUS operations.
Based in Andover, the role combines technical analysis and strategic input with hands-on operational support. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable analysing vehicle performance data and technical reports in the office as travelling to customer sites to resolve high-profile vehicle issues.
The role is central to improving vehicle uptime, reducing VOR (Vehicle Off Road) time and strengthening customer confidence in BP Rolls and the MAXUS brand, while supporting the Group Aftersales Director and Aftersales team.
This is not a purely administrative or desk-based role. It requires a technically and mechanically capable individual who can take ownership of difficult issues, lead their resolution and represent BP Rolls professionally with customers, suppliers, manufacturers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Aftersales Support
- Provide technical and aftersales support across BP Rolls’ EV and commercial vehicle operations remotely and in person
- Investigate complex and recurring vehicle and bodybuilder faults, identifying root causes and effective solutions.
- Attend problematic or high-profile jobs at customer and operational locations, including hands-on mechanical work.
- Work with manufacturers, technical support teams and suppliers to escalate and resolve complex issues.
- Maintain a strong understanding of emerging EV technology, vehicle systems, diagnostics and industry developments.
- Carry out hands-on vehicle repairs where required.
Vehicle Performance, Data & Uptime
- Analyse vehicle performance reports, diagnostic information, technical data and operational trends.
- Identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve vehicle reliability and availability.
- Proactively identify potential problems before they develop into significant VOR events.
- Use data and technical insight to improve fleet uptime, first-time fix rates and customer satisfaction.
- Develop recommendations for operational and technical improvements and provide strategic input into future service and aftersales requirements.
VOR & Issue Resolution
- Take ownership of significant VOR cases, coordinating the appropriate technical, operational and commercial response.
- Support the business in resolving high-profile customer issues quickly and professionally.
- Coordinate across depots, technicians, parts, manufacturers and customers to ensure issues reach resolution.
- Maintain visibility of outstanding technical issues and ensure appropriate follow-up and communication.
- Challenge delays, recurring failures and ineffective processes where necessary.
Customer & Commercial Engagement
- Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers, particularly regarding MAXUS vehicles and aftersales support.
- Build strong professional relationships through effective communication and technical credibility.
- Attend customer meetings and operational reviews where technical input is required.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear, commercially relevant information.
- Identify opportunities where technical support, aftersales performance or vehicle optimisation can strengthen customer relationships and support sales.
- Work closely with Sales and Aftersales teams to provide technical expertise throughout the customer journey.
Strategic & Operational Input
- Identify opportunities to improve technical capability, processes, training and customer support.
- Contribute to technical standards and best practice across the Group.
- Support the wider business strategy around EV adoption, vehicle uptime and the continued growth of the MAXUS brand.
- Balance strategic technical input with the practical requirement to resolve issues and deliver results.
The Role
The position is deliberately structured as a hybrid role, combining:
- Day-to-day technical and administrative oversight.
- Data analysis and vehicle performance monitoring.
- Technical support to depots and technicians.
- Customer engagement and relationship management.
- On-the-road technical intervention.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable moving between a laptop, customer meeting, workshop floor or field environment while maintaining sight of the commercial objective.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within the motor trade, ideally in commercial vehicles, fleet, diagnostics or aftersales.
- Strong technical and diagnostic capability, with the ability to investigate complex vehicle faults.
- Proven EV and high-voltage vehicle systems experience, qualified to IMI Level 3 EV or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills.
- Commercially astute, understanding that technical decisions must support customer service, vehicle uptime and business performance.
- Highly organised, self-directed and able to work independently.
- Comfortable working across multiple locations and managing competing priorities.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
Desirable
- IMI Level 4 EV qualification or equivalent.
- Experience with commercial vehicles or fleet operations.
- Previous experience supporting a vehicle manufacturer, dealership or national fleet.
- Experience with MAXUS vehicles or other EV commercial vehicle platforms.
- Experience in a customer-facing technical or field-based role.
Personal Profile
We are looking for someone who is:
- Genuinely interested in solving complex vehicle problems.
- Curious and analytical, with the ability to move from symptoms to root cause.
- Proactive in identifying trends and potential failures before they become customer problems.
- Confident dealing directly with customers and senior stakeholders.
- Commercially aware and able to understand the wider impact of technical decisions.
- Comfortable taking ownership of difficult situations and seeing them through to resolution.
- Resilient and effective in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible enough to work independently from the office, remotely or on the road.
- Motivated by problem-solving, execution and delivering measurable improvements in vehicle uptime.
Ultimately, this is a role for a technically strong individual who wants to make a visible difference — not simply diagnose vehicles, but use their technical expertise, commercial understanding and customer skills to improve vehicle performance, service delivery and the MAXUS proposition.
